Editorial Reviews

Write This Down has worked hard since coming together in 2005. The band played any and every show that was put in front of them, while juggling work, school to practice non-stop. They self release two EP's to critical and fan acclaim. Write This Down recorded their self-titled debut full length album "Write This Down" in Nashville with famed producer Rob Hawkins.

Tooth & Nail continues to succeed in signing bands with amazing talent, and Write This Down is just one more to add to the lineup.

Album is well rounded with acoustic and piano thrown in on some tracks.

One of Tooth & Nail's newest, Write This Down, is probably not what you would expect--they certainly surprised me with their self-titled debut on T&N Records. They've released a few EPs independently, but the production on this studio album has stepped up things up a few notches for this band. As far as their music goes, it's quite a diverse mixture, an element that causes them to differentiate themselves from other bands who stick to the formula of rock and do not stray far enough to be interesting. Let me explain.

The beginning of the album explodes via "Alarm the Alarm." Right away we hear screams, but they're in the background, leaving more room for the clean vocals to shine through. Unlike their independent release of the song, things are much more melodic in the chorus, and actually come across as quite catchy, despite their obvious metal influences. From there, the verses suddenly evolve into a pop-rock vibe, a curious transition. They pull it off without anything feeling uncomfortable in between, and turns out to be an extremely addictive track. We even see evidences of the band's faith in the line, "There is no other name by which I am saved/ I will not be afraid to trust in you."

Besides this brief moment, it gets a bit harder to identify any influences of the band's faith on the record. Write This Down has some fantastic songwriting, but their message often gets lost in the not-all-too-clear lyrics. They make several brief references to God on the album, but don't expect anything overly spiritual. None of this is to say that this makes the record any less of what it is. Probably the most powerful line in the album that speaks of God is in the song "Kings and Councilors" when they scream, "What can wash away your sins?/ Nothing but the blood.

I saw this band when they opened for The Classic Crime, and had never heard of them. After they performed I was very pleasantly surprised and I told myself that I need their album, this band is going to go places. I have been listening to the minute clips of most of there songs on their MySpace page and have been waiting anxiously for the CD release and here it is. IT ROCKS!!!!! The album is pretty cheap only at $5.99, and definitely worth the money. I would recommend picking up this album and if you get the chance to see them live, you will not be disappointed.

I had never heard Write This Down before this album came out. I buy most of Tooth and Nail's albums, although there are a few that aren't my style...

Luckily, this album is fantastic. It reminds me of Emery more than anything else and I LOVE Emery, so that's a compliment in my book.

If you like your rock with a hint of screaming, but with melodies you can still sing along with, this album is for you.

Write This Down has put together a very catchy cd. Every tune grabs your attention. Some listeners will get annoyed by the melting pot of sounds, particularly when some parts sound almost exactly like something you've heard before. If you were to take the gritiest, heaviest samples from The Used then add to it the positivity and clean vocals of Relient K and round it off with the catchy and accessible elements of Fallout Boy you would get something like Write This Down.

I personally liked it. For that reason I give Write This Down 4 stars. Their next release could get a 5th star for originality if they can make the music sound more like their own rather than a mixture of a few bands.

I first saw Write This Down in a dinky coffee shop in Maple Grove back in the day when they had 6 people in their band. I absolutely fell in love with them. Then all of a sudden one guitarist left the band, but he was replaced. Then there was about a year or so of them having very little activity and now the band has a major record label contract and down to 3 members.

I'd say that this album is defenetly trying to go more mainstream to get a wider range of audience. If you listen to their 2 ep's before this album (alarm the alarm, affect not regret) it's a lot more screamo. This album they remade 4 of their ep songs: Alarm the Alarm, Renagade, Redemption, and Kigns and Councilors. Basically what they changed from the ep to this album is they toned down the screaming parts to a odd shouting type sound. It works I suppose.

2 new songs "I never said that I was through with you" and "center of attention" have a pop punk feel to it, which is kind of weird hearing it from them but I liked them nonetheless. Then the other new stuff too have some pretty pop punk choruses, but verses are def. back to what they were in the day.

2 acoustic songs on there, but the last one is only like 2 mins or something. I felt that they could have done better with these two songs, I kept waiting for the song to go somewhere but it doesn't. I was kind of dissapointed that they didn't put "relative ease" on this album, that song was a crowd pleaser at every concert.

So conclusion: if you're into the heavy screaming stuff, buy their ep's "alarm the alarm" and "affect not regret" (I think their still up on itunes). But their new stuff is arguably equally as good, just different.
