Mr. Kenower has penned a marvelous resource for writers and readers alike. As a wordsmith Mr. Kenower is clearly experienced. His essays answer some of the fundamental questions all writers face. And his answers are satisfying, but leave you thinking and reflecting. His best advice may be the only advice most writers need; write within yourself, tell your story your way, and don't be dissuaded. Kenower clearly lives by this notion and it works. His work is a tremendous resource for writers at any level.

This is a lovely book of brief essays about writing and life. If you are a fan of Anne Lamott, this is a book that will give you the same pleasure. They have the same humor, unique viewpoint and spiritual slant that make them wonderful to read on a daily basis. Definitely recommend!

Doesn't matter if you're a writer or not, it's a great inspirational read. I try and read one essay a day...a yummy philosophical morsel to start my day.

Write Within Yourself is a perfect daily devotional for writers. Though the book was so compelling I wanted to read it straight through to the end once, I will now savor each essay, one at a time, every day. Mr. Kenower has a gift for sharing pieces of his life we all can relate to, though not exactly matching his, of course. From simple, sharply drawn images in memories like a Wonder Bread wrapper in the wind swimming in the air like a tropical fish to various metaphors from simple daily life events to life-changing events from his past, Mr. Kenower isn't afraid to show his vulnerablility and sometimes hard-earned wisdom and insights and give us all something to think about, relate to, and especially motivate us to keep on living our joy and passion of writing. There is humor throughout and he shares experieces as varied as being forced to finish dreaded mashed potatoes to briefly hob-nobbing with Hollywood big-wigs. His writing achieves what a creative writing teacher of mine in college once said were the "four main goals" of any kind of writing---clarity, economy, precision, originality. One of the best "why-to" writing books I've come across in years and a rare "keeper" on my writing shelf!

This lovely collection of essays is a must-have companion in the creative journey. William Kenower writes in a way that is easy to connect with what he has to say.

Quote from Four Reasons:

"...Choose what you want to believe and believe only in it, evidence be damned. Evidence in my experience, changes precisely to align with whatever I believe the most."
Just to give you an example of the countless pearls of this book.

And the essay about the brass rings was simply endearing. I will certainly come back to this book again, and again.

Highly recommended

I've been following Bill Kenower's blog for years now, so I knew what I was getting when I purchased Write Within Yourself. Every writer experiences doubt, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned author, and the stories in Kenower's companion are exactly what's needed to maintain one's inner course.

It's broken down into small two-page chapters with brief little stories that illustrate just why you're writing in the first place: Not for your audience, not for agents or editors. Ultimately, you're spending your spare moments putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) for yourself. If your writing isn't making *you* happy, then why are you doing it?

I keep Write Within Yourself at my desk and read a story at random before I start my daily writing session. Often, the page I pick is exactly what I need to hear.

Bill Kenower’s new book, Write Within Yourself, is a string of pearls, a gift from one writer to another. Kenower defines his collection of short chapters not as your guide, but rather as your companion along the writing process. His reassuring approach empowers both the beginner and the experienced writer. He crafts brief nuggets of story and memoir into a journey that’s about living your life as much as it is about writing. Those ups and downs, those successes, failures and embarrassing moments are “the intersection of creativity and everyday life” which is the source of the best writing. The hard part of good writing is knowing, deeply and truly, what you most want to say. Kenower says that the same is true of how you choose to live your life—both need to be genuine, loving, thoughtful choices. This book encourages private reflection as well as providing a prod and a spark to your work.
