Book Description

August 22, 1997
According to psychologist Paul Pearsall, it is possible to find paradise on Earth. Everything needed to enjoy and share a full and happy life is prewired into people's natural internal pleasure system. Drawing from the latest research in modern medicine combined with ancient Oceanic principles, this book, a companion to the bestselling The Pleasure Prescription, guides readers in developing their own everyday pleasure prescriptions.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

According to Hawaiian psychologist Paul Pearsall, a lack of pleasure is the unhealthiest aspect of modern life. In this follow-up to his bestselling The Pleasure Prescription, Pearsall expands on the notion that true happiness depends on five Zen-like "aloha principles": be patient and stay in the moment, live in unity with the earth and other people, and be flexible, humble, and kind. His recommendations for a more pleasurable existence link these principles to a wide range of self-help categories, from emotional intelligence to noncompetitive play, in a workbook format that includes space in which to answer questions about your enjoyment skills, write out feelings, and record thoughts. Selections from Pearsall's Pleasure Prescription are reprinted for those who missed it, and readers looking for a hands-on way to apply that book's ideas will find that the many suggestions in Write Your Own Pleasure Prescription are a pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplifying life without stress or worry., December 16, 1997
This review is from: Write Your Own Pleasure Prescription: 60 Ways to Create Balance and Joy in Your Life (Paperback)
Dr. Pearsall's easy explanation of why our lives are so stressful urges us to take a look within to find the answers to what can bring peace, harmony, love and contentment into everyone's lives. The ideas and suggestions are so simple you wonder why it has taken so long to discover.

Included is a short test to assess your personal stress level, to define what makes you angry and why. Then Dr. Pearsall offers simple suggestions that really work. Those who have read his previous book, "The Pleasure Prescription" will rediscover the easy, polynesian philosophy of acceptance that makes the islands the true paradises they are. By looking inward we gain a better understanding of the world around us, and why such modern phenomenon as "road rage" happen so often.

It's difficult to sum up the whole concept in a few short paragraphs, but the essential message is, "lighten up" to live longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love all of Dr. Pearsall's books--Pleasure is Important to a Divine Life, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Write Your Own Pleasure Prescription: 60 Ways to Create Balance and Joy in Your Life (Paperback)
If you are seeking to bring more pleasure into your life, live less stress, and generally become happier, read this book. I have read and even written many self-help books in my time, and always find value in Pearsall's work. He writes from the heart and with a great deal of solid scientific information. He is one of the best in the industry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Un-pleasurable Reading, August 7, 2010
This review is from: Write Your Own Pleasure Prescription: 60 Ways to Create Balance and Joy in Your Life (Paperback)
I found this book to be rather boring. It feels as if the author repeats the same thought over and over again until it fill up the whole book. In a way it's like chanting if you are into that sort of thing. My own pleasure prescription is to read something more pleasurable.
