4.0 out of 5 stars Always a very useful reference tool, but needs to be updated
A must have for all college and graduate students. Turabian answers all questions regarding proper citation, organization, and formatting. The only downside is that research has changed dramatically since this issue was published and the book is not too helpful in dealing with electronic/internet resources.

2.0 out of 5 stars Completely confusing
I was told that this book made the Chicago Manual of Style look like tax code. Indeed Turabian's book is alot thinner and completely well organized, but I just couldn't seem to find what I needed, ever. I returned to the Chicago Manual of Style, and ended up returning my copy of Turabian to the bookstore.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any serious graduate student., September 19, 1998

This review is from: A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th Edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
As a new graduate student I found myself overwhelmed by the requirements of the standard research paper. Having little knowledge of the proper way to reference and list bibliographies, I went to the local library for help. The librarian suggested Turabian's book. Needless to say I took her advice and brought the book home with me. I found this book to be an invaluable tool. So much in-fact that I decided to purchase a copy for myself. No student library is complete without this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terabian is the ultimate source for serious writers, September 15, 1998

I have been using the Terabian style book for about ten years. Though Kate Terabian passed away several years ago, her legacy lives on in her style book. The book is well-organized, and covers every question I have ever had regarding punctuation, formatting, and style. The proliferation of examples is what makes it easy to use. I would recommend it, especially for serious academic writers, both students and teachers. The only caution I have is that a casual writer may find it too technical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Commendable Book for Research Writers, January 23, 2007
This review is from: A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th Edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)

I have used this book in my project and dissertation research as well as writing papers and the book met all my needs. I found the book to contain detailed guidelines that facilitated my writing exercises, including paper layouts, formatting, citing references, manuscript preparation, advice on word-processing software, among several other tips and hints. The book is suitable for those undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate research studies or anyone wishing to produce a high quality piece of writing.

Although there is room for updating the book to meet the latest technological developments, this does not detract from the fact that this is one of the best books around on guidance on writing papers, theses and dissertations. The book is highly recommended for those writing academic or professional papers and projects, including publishing articles in journals and periodicals.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, October 20, 2005

The text is exactly what it claims to be. I purchased this book for a course in Historical Methods and I've used it to the point of needing a second copy. This manual is so incredibly detailed and concise that I wouldn't think of writing a paper (in any course or context) without it! I love it, it gives detailed instructions and examples for just about every scenario one might stumble upon in writing, whether it be research or not. I'd definately recommend this manual to anyone, academic, professional, or anyone else; who writes in any form.

5.0 out of 5 stars necessary item, November 13, 2006
This review is from: A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th Edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
This book was suggested by name for two of my college courses. It takes some of the fear out of turning in a paper that requires notation. It should be an item of reference on any student's shelf.

An Essential for writers and students, however, needs to be updated to add current information for citing sources off the Internet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, April 13, 2001

This review is from: A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th Edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
I recommend this to anybody who wants a great manual, but it is most relevant for college students, and perhaps those with even more education, although I would assume that they would get an even more detailed manual. The book has many chapters, but the chapters that make this book great are the chapters on citations. If you are interested in how to use commas or abbreviations this book has that, but there are better, easier books out there. However, if you want a quick, easy reference for Chicago Style citations this book is great. Almost every question you could possibly have about a citation will be answered by the books attention to detail. Like others have said in their reviews, the book doesn't do a good job with electronic information. Still, the book is worth buying. This book is great. Buy it now.
