Barbara Joe-Williams has written an excellent guide for those who are contemplating self-publishing in A WRITER'S GUIDE TO SELF-PUBLISHING AND MARKETING. She has broken the process down into manageable steps, starting with the novel itself and how to write one, the pitfalls involved and how to come up with a marketable book. The guide is done in 10 steps and the first one is choosing what it is that you wish to write and the last step is Marketing Your New Book, which is absolutely necessary for success. Other steps include the importance of the book title and the cover and how to chose both; Editing Your Manuscript; Publishing Options. My favorite was the detailed information on Self-Publishing Your Book because there are so many small steps that a writer needs to be aware of to accomplish the job. Ms. Joe-Williams actually includes copies of the letters she has written as well as the forms necessary to complete this task.

This is a very concise book that breaks the process into manageable steps and makes the process seem a lot less frightening and accomplishable. It is well written, interesting and covers absolutely everything a writer needs to know about the entire process from A to Z. Ms. Joe-Williams even includes the appropriate websites as well as street addresses for the people a writer will need to work with. An added plus is that she explains why each step is necessary. This is a must read for writers looking into the area of self-publishing.
