From School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-One hundred and fifty authors and illustrators of children's books, including Denise Fleming, Paula Danziger, Barry Moser, and Jerry Spinelli, reminisce about food. Each entry includes a reflection, the titles of a few of the individual's books, and a favorite recipe. These men and women share childhood memories centered around eating: family recipes, holidays fondly remembered, mothers who were fine people but terrible cooks, and so on. The selections are arranged by food group and include most of the dishes found in a general cookbook. However, since the choice was up to the contributors, there are multiples of such favorites as grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate cake. Many of the recipes are for basic comfort foods, and some are unusual and inviting. The question is, who will be attracted to this book? Maybe a cookbook lover-but there are many other choices with zippier formats and more attractive recipes. Maybe students looking for information about an author-but they will have to be directed to this title by a teacher or librarian.
