Great book of writing for the UK market in various formats, November 12, 2010
This review is from: Writer's Market UK (Paperback)
The Writer's Market UK (2009 edition) is the second "Writer's Market" I have read. It is just as big as the 2008 edition and weighs in at 1.5kg with 976 pages. The book includes Where and How to Sell what you Write and is fully revised with updated listings. This edition is edited by Caroline Taggart.
The book begins with many interesting short articles including writing for the radio, writing for the web, publishing a work of non-fiction, the publishing house, the publishing process, contracts and legal issues and many others which are from 3-4 pages in length.
The directory listings is very large and is split into numerous categories: Directory Listings of various UK, Irish and European publishers, music publishers, and UK and Irish national and local newspapers. Broadcasts begin with the departments within the BBC and then flow into UK and Irish TV companies, Commercial Regional and National TV, local radio and producers and production companies. Within these listing are all the contact details you need - Tel., email, who to contact etc. and how to approach them, type of submissions / proposals / queries.
Other sections includes Theatre, Agencies, Consultancies, Organisation, Groups and Clubs, Resources, education, Competition and Prizes, Festival and Conferences, finalising in an index of 20 pages. This book is comprehensive, though not exhaustive and is a very useful resource of so much writing related information in one place. The book is east to read or flick through and is laid out well. A hearty book which is a good addition to any writer or would-be writer to point you in the direction to go, or where not to go in relation to any publisher, broadcaster with tips along the way.
