I have used the Diana Hacker books since entering graduate school years ago. As a late re-entry into higher education, I had been schooled in footnotes, etc. Using this books kept me aware of the revised requirements for citation and formatting.
Unfortunately, many institutions of higher learning buy reference guides that are packaged with a textbook. They are very often outdated or difficult to use. I refer my students to Hacker's website, and provide my copy for student use in the classroom.

A Writer's Reference is the best reference book ever! I am amazed at the amount of information contained in it. I especially like the format and the concise explanations within each categories. It is my "go to" book and is the best reference book I've ever purchased.

Hacker's 2009 Style Manual is a must have for teachers; especially for English teachers who will teach paper writing. This book covers everything from how to write MLA, CMS, and APA papers along with how to write introductions, thesis statements, body paragraphs, parenthetical (in-text) documentations, and conclude with works cited pages. I know as a teacher if I could buy a copy for every single one of my students, I would. They are writing papers for my Freshmen class (High School) and each of the presentations I am doing on each part of the paper, I have referenced this book.

This item arrived as expected and was extremely valuable during my english composition class. I learnt a few things from it too! The only problem was that the APA rules it contains were out-of-date when I got it. That's not the book's fault because APA rules change like the weather. My advice is use all the other information but ignore the APA pages. Purdue University has an up-to-date APA site that even my university, Embry-Riddle recommends, the URL is here: [...]. Another down side is that a few of the pages were not in order. It's in a ringed binder format so I just opened it up and realigned them. Oh well. Good book, nontheless.

I purchased this book for a writing class. It's just a refrence book anyways, and bought it for $6 when my campus bookstore was selling it for 40+. It's just a reference book you know. Higly recommend this book it's worth it.

I was in a teacher's classroom and picked up this book. As a former English teacher, I can say that it is very good as a reference source for grammar. I wrote down the title and author and ordered it for a friend of mine who was beginning to teach remedial English in a junior college.
