More About the Author

Elaine P. Maimon is the first author of several widely used texts--"A Writer's Resource", "The McGraw-Hill Handbook", "The Brief McGraw-Hill Handbook", and "Writing Intensive"--all published by McGraw-Hill, with the intention of helping students become independent writers. In the 1970's, she initiated and then directed the Beaver College writing-across-the-curriculum program, one of the first WAC programs in the nation. With a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania, where she later helped to create the Writing Across the University (WATU) program, she has taught and served as an academic administrator at Haverford College, Brown University, Queens College, and Arizona State University. She was Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage, and is now President of Governors State University, the only public university in the south suburbs of Chicago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Help for Students, February 2, 2009

I had to buy this book for my English 101 class but I have kept it and use it every time I write reports for any classes. It is an excellent reference and well worth the cost just for the section on how to format reports in the MLA, Chicago, etc. formats (at least as long as the information remains current).

This book was required for my freshman ENG 101 class in college, and I still reference this book in my independent research papers. The section on formatting different styles of papers is a fantastic reference and really makes it worth purchasing this reference! I'm happy that I kept this book, and recommend it to those needing an excellent "writer's resource" guide. I have found it to be a great go-to guide covering many different topics related to writing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful...only fair condition, December 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The writing style guide arrived in a timely manner and was very useful in my graduate studies. However, the "comb" (the plastic binding) was broken in a number of places so it was difficult to keep the pages together.
