1.0 out of 5 stars The writer's guide for 1945!, June 8, 2008

This review is from: The Writer's Workbook (Hodder Arnold Publication) (Paperback)
Strange book.

This book tries to cover ALL the genre from short stories to song lyrics. Unfortunately, this means nothing is covered in depth.

Also, the author's seem to be unaware of how much writing has changed in the last few decades. An entire chapter is devoted to radio drama. Radio drama! I am in my mid-forties and have never heard radio drama except on archival recordings. A chapter is devoted to a genre that no longer exists.

Blogging is mentioned and defined. But the unique difficulties and techniques of writing for the internet are never identified and dealt with.

So who is this book aimed at? Beginning writers who might want to revive the genre of radio drama while avoiding any serious involvement with internet writing.

This is the perfect book for someone starting their writing career in the mid-20th century!
