Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I was happy to contribute SPRING ROWING to this anthology of stories set in spring time. The editors, Pat Fravorp and Gary Schulze own Once Upon A Crime, a fabulous mystery bookstore in Minneapolis. Their support of local writers has made the Twin Cities a magnet for some of the very best mystery writers in the U.S.

Format: Paperback
This was a library borrow, and I was a bit surprised to find that all the stories in the book has some element of crime in them. This is not a bad thing, though it is not necessarily a genre I spend a lot of time with.

Most of the stories were short, say 4-8 pages, and that makes the book easy to pick up for those brief waits in life. I have reduced this by a star, because some of the stories left me wondering if that was really all the author had to share. A story where a bad guy gets punished in some supernatural way comes to mind. Ditto a story called Johnny's Johnson, where a crook gets identified because of his supernaturally lengthened.... well, Johnson. There were a good number of stories, however, that did not take the easy way out with such a glib ending.

Overall, the book was an enjoyable read: a series of clever stories wound together on a similar theme. It is well worth picking up for those times when you don't have the concentration or time for a longer book.

I bought this specificaly for the two stories in it by Harold Adams. These are from a "Lost" manuscript and I'm sure they will probably be the last of his stories published.
