Book Description

Imagine you could write the first draft of a novel in only 30 days. Imagine you could figure out how long it would take to complete each step down to the day – that you could set realistic and accurate goals that would allow you to maintain a constant momentum.

This 30-day method for outlining a novel eliminates many of the problems that plague authors, novice and experienced. It will work for any genre of fiction and for any type of writer. You might think that using an outline stifles creativity. But there’s no wrong way to write a book – just ineffective ways. Try this method once and see if it makes a difference…

‘Writing a Book in 30 Days’ covers:

Stage 1: Preliminary Outline – Days 1–6
Stage 2: Research – Days 7–13
Stage 3: Story Evolution – Days 14–15
Stage 4: Formatted Outline – Days 16–24
Stage 5: Outline Evaluation – Days 25–28
Stage 6: Revising Your Outline – Days 29–30

60-Minute Masterclasses are expert ebooks that help you do more with your creative writing, journalism and entrepreneurship. Locking on to the stuff that you actually need to know, each title is a precise, practical pointer on the matters that matter most.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, START THAT NOVEL! August 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Have you always wanted to write a novel, but somehow you just can’t get that first sentence or paragraph written? Have you ever sat down with the resolve, good or bad, I’m going to get something written, then endlessly stared at a blank screen? Karen Wiesner has stepped up to rescue us with “How to Write a Book in 30 Days.”
I don’t have the time and/or discipline to get everything done within the 30-day target. But, so what; I’m started, I progressing, and I could not be happier. This book has cured my blank page. You will get excited reading the introduction. You will get enthusiastic about starting when you begin working in the Brainstorming section. The rest of the book is basically divided into six steps, with a number of days proscribed for each step: Preliminary Outline, Research, Story Evolution, Formatted Outline, Outline Evaluation, and Revising Your Outline. On day 29, should you follow the day-by-day proscription, you begin revising your outline. The outline produced by this method is exhaustive and comprehensive. So much so that, Ms Wiesner, herself the author of scores of books, considers the outline at this stage to be the first draft of the novel.
Each of the six sections is composed of step-by-step directions and actionable suggestions. Additionally, she provides a link to 16 worksheets that are so useful, that it’s hard to imagine ever getting stuck again. These include, Character Sketch, General Setting Sketch, Miscellaneous Scene Notes, Closing Scene, Background Timeline, Dialog Sheet and many more. These worksheets alone are worth the price of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book sets the standard for writing systems September 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Karen Wiesner has confirmed for me that she is a serious author and contributor to the world of literary analysis. I have read and purchased the original First Draft in 30 Days, for which "Writing a Book in Thirty Days" is the condensed version.

Ms. Wiesner has confirmed for me she has done her homework and presented her case for the basis of a dynamic and customizable writing system; and ends the wild goose chase of how to write a book, any book. Ms Wiesner has drawn a line in the sand for writing methods.

Ms. Wiesner lays the ground work for which there can be debate or disagreement or differences of style and development; all of that does not matter because Ms. Wiesner has set down a serious metric for producing one book, let alone multiple manuscripts or a series.

I believe Ms. Wiesner's Writing System template, is truly an excellent foundation for discovering and developing a personal and unique writing system. Use Ms. Wiesner's 30 Day Schedule with Scrivener (writing software) and a writer will be born! Thank you Ms. Wiesner.

Final Note, Final Thought:

I do not work for Ms Wiesner nor Scrivener, I am simply an author sharing my experience and advice as solicited by the Amazon Reviews.

My final thought is that with the publication of Ms. Wiesner's work, diligent organization, style, and, explanation almost any one will be able to say they know how to write a book.

Here is how to write a book, here is square one, first base, the starting gate, and, the simplest step-by-step writing method for fiction which includes short stories, novellas, novels, and, literature (not to mention non-fiction journalism, biographies and memoirs) .

Ms. Wiesner's contribution to writing is now the baseline; and, I hope and believe, soon-to-be a household word in writing circles round the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear no nonsense guide on how to plan your writing July 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was an inspiring read. Vigorous schedule and clear guide on how to plan your writing. Particularly like chunks of time given to thinking and generating ideas because although I'm not a writer, I'm sure writing takes a lot of thought and isn't just the activity of writing. It also shows how to allocate research time to ensure it doesn't interfere with the writing.
