This review is from: Writing In Bullets: The New Rules for Maximum Business Communication (Paperback)
From the title, I was expecting more of a "how to" think in bullets communicate accordingly. I tend to write this way already, and have a few staff members that I really wish would learn how to do so, as well. I was hoping for some guidelines to help them develop this communication style for email and presentations. That information IS included, but the first half of the book focuses heavily on things like selecting bullet style (round, square filled, square outline, check mark, exclamation point), aligning the height of the bullet with the text and spacing the text from the bullet. There are several pages of side-by-side examples of bulleted lists, "this one is correct; this one is not correct". Several have to be studied pretty closely to understand why one is more aesthetic than the others. I can respect the high art of use of white space and other arcana of the printer's discipline but: not exactly what my staff needed. This book would probably be very good for a marketing intern or assistant, who could help lay out content for web pages or printed materials. |
