disappointed,
This review is from: How to Make a Whole Lot More Than 1,000,000 Writing, Commissioning, Publishing, and Selling How to Information (Paperback)
I have received mailings from Dr. Lant for many years. He is a master of promotion. Can that be taught? Unfortunately this book had too little content in too many pages at too high a cost for my taste. In recent times he has apparently started a multilevel marketing program based on internet web sites as the product.... The MLM approach has definitely made me question the viability of his advice. while Jeff has been quite successful at promoting himself and selling information products his advice was insufficient for me to copy him. That could be me. It could be his advice. I think it is more the nature of our personalities. He has what it takes to sell, market, and promote successfully. Like that runner in the olympics who runs straight up, I could try to copy him but I will never run as fast. Same with these how to make a billion bux books. You can copy them but you can't duplicate their results. Ted Nicholas, that kid on late night TV, and some others were the same. Their how to do what they do products fell far short of being adequate. Jerry Buchanan, Bob Bly, et al, fall a little short but come a lot closer to providing the key to success through marketing, promotion, selling information, or self publishing, etc.. That guerilla marketing guy was a total bust too IMHO. John Kremer and Dan Poynter have supplemental info that is vital to self publishers and info product marketeers. Tom and Marilyn Ross are a close second to John and Dan. Jeff, Ted, Bob, Jerry, Joe Karbo, et al have some worthwhile insights. But none of them fully deliver what I thought was promised -- certainly not what I needed to duplicate their results. On an absolute basis this is a one star book. But so many of the others are as bad or worse I had to give it two stars. 1.5 stars is probably a more accurate rating. People who are brand new to this topic may well be wowed and give it 5 stars. When they revisit their assessment after a few years they will change their minds too. If you are new to this topic then buy the book! It will give you an introduction and overview worth having. If you have experience but need something more to move you from so-so results to the 10000000 success level then keep looking. If you have time borrow the book from the library and browse it. But do not expect to find the magic silver bullet solution to becoming rich in any of these books.

I agree 100% with the other reviewer. I bought this book and was thoroughly disappointed--I actually gave it away. Lant seems to like hearing himself talk because this book, like his others, are the result of taking a handful of information and spreading it very thinly thoroughout 300+ pages. Lant seems to equate a high page count with quality. The info in this book is so behind the times... he apparently never took the effort to update it. Save your $$ as all of the info in this tome is available for free--and more interestingly written without the pomposity he's so well known for--on the web. If you must, get it second hand. You'll find plenty of copies in used book stores. Hmmm... I wonder why?

Very disappointing,

Thankfully, I checked this book out from the library. I read it and found absolutely little value. The information is outdated and is totally written to sell the author's products. Don't waste your time or money on this book.

Use Your Money & Mind More Wisely,

Jeffrey Lant's books are full of negative thinking and arrogance. He attacks most others who write on the same topics as himself.Mr. Lant's works are painfully redundant. Perhaps he feels that the quantity of pages rather than the quality of what is one them is more important. If you find an index helpful, you will not be happy with this book - there is none! Your money is valuable and more so your time. What you really want is to enjoy reading and gaining helpful information. If so, Jeffrey Lant's books will not be of much help... Clever (long) titles, but don't be fooled!

Read this book "when you're serious about making big money",
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Make a Whole Lot More Than 1,000,000 Writing, Commissioning, Publishing, and Selling How to Information (Paperback)
On the cover of the revised second edition, near the bottom, is the following sentence: "This is what you want when you're serious about making big money from books, booklets, audio cassettes and Special Reports." This is what you don't want when you're not serious about the subject matter. This book will bore the casual reader to tears. I know about this from both sides. When I first skimmed the book, I was just looking for easy ways to make money and didn't have a plan yet. Then this book seemed like so much print on so much paper. Now that I am writing a cookbook that I intend to self-publish, I am finding the book to be an absolute gold mine of ideas presented with enough detail to allow me to carry them out in my own personal style. The first chapter is titled: "Twenty-three reasons why most people fail to make money from the booklets, books, special reports and audio cassettes they produce or commission...Why you'll lose money, too...Unless you use this book." This 85 page chapter by itself is worth the price of the book. It presents major business lessons that many have never learned. He shows you how to check out what he's saying about advertising, for example, by taking a careful look at your junk mail. Most advertisers are not client-centered. They make announcements about themselves on the cover of the envelope, such as "XYZ Corporation announces the new What's It!" Well, who cares? XYZ Corporation, that's who. The first chapter is also an excellent example of the type of nitty-gritty information that you will find in his other books as well. There's another good book, "The Incredible Secret Money Machine II" by Don Lancaster, that deals with some of the same issues that Lant does. Lancaster's book is a good one to help one thoughtfully balance some of Lant's concepts which might be injurious to some if taken to extremes. Lant is extremely profit oriented and self-promotional and urges you to be the same way. (However, I've read many of his other books and communicated with him via phone and email a few times, and I must say that I think he's a great guy.) Lancaster emphasizes making profit too but only within the bigger scope of integrating one's business into one's life. Note: This is a fine point. To some extent, both Lancaster and Lant encourage you to encompass your business with your very soul. Don Lancaster, in the above mentioned book, says that people read for one of four reasons: (1) wish fulfillment, (2) ego gratification, (3) escape, and (4) information. "How to Make a Whole Lot More Than $1,000,000...," though it does pretty well as far as the first three categories, is oriented toward people seeking information. And, for those readers, the information will generally be found to be of vital interest and to be presented in a lively way. Consider this. How interested are you in reading LAST week's entertainment guide? What about THIS week's entertainment guide?

I read Money Making Marketing and loved it. For the most part I have found Lant to be very good at getting his point across and providing good information you can use. Unfortunately, with "How to Make a Whole Lot More than 1,000,000 (& etc)" he talks down to the reader incessantly and he offers very little in the way of substance. I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to wade through this book and found that I just can't. I wanted to like this book, the subject matter is near and dear to my heart. However, Lant needs to focus on the subject hand, follow his own advice and give the customer what they want. People buy this book because they want clear, step-by-step advice on how to produce a product that they can sell. I am no different than anyone else in that I want that real how-to advice. Lant completely fails to provide at all tangible in that area. Save your money and bypass this book.

Comprehensive, useful and no-nonsense "how-to" guide,
By webmaster@profitcreation.com Steven A. Fu... (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Make a Whole Lot More Than 1,000,000 Writing, Commissioning, Publishing, and Selling How to Information (Paperback)
Dr. Lant's book for writers and publishers is very comprehensive, easy to follow and full of detailed guidelines on how to turn knowledge into a high quality "how-to" publication and then into profit. Dr. Lant does an especially good job of presenting and reinforcing fundamentals that are necessary for success. The need to have multiple products to sell to my customers is a lesson that I will never forget. I will be leaning heavily on the valuable advice found in Dr. Lant's book to complete and publish my new book called "Drive Down State Unemployment Taxes". Note the "client-centered" title which clearly shows my book's major benefit. I learned this plus many other great tips in Dr. Lant's book.

I found this book to be extremely useful with tons of tips that I have made notes on. I also find Lantrey's writing to be easy to read and quite enjoyable. I'm sure he would find it entertaining to hear that I have enjoyed reading this book in bed to relax on many occasions! It is great for generating ideas and steering the technique of producing any kind of information products. Yes, ideas come from within, however how one gets that idea to the public is what this book is so good at helping with. Patience has it's rewards! Thank you, Jeffrey!

I have a better marketing strategy,
This review is from: How to Make a Whole Lot More Than 1,000,000 Writing, Commissioning, Publishing, and Selling How to Information (Paperback)
I suppose you could find some useful information in this book if you have the time and the patience to sift through the nauseating verbosity the author is so good at. Personally, I had neither. So I just went for a walk and had an absolutely phenomenal idea that worked right away. The more books we read, the less time we have to do what we really want to do. Life is short. Just focus on a genuine product or service you want to provide and a perfect marketing strategy will be prompted from within.
