A Must for all Aspiring Novelis,
By Ann Lacy (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Win Writing Contests (Paperback)
I wish I had this book 20 years ago. It provides a checklist of ingredients required for a winning novel that would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

A Must-Have Check-List for Budding Novelists,
By John Howard Reid (Wyong, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Win Writing Contests (Paperback)
The title of this handy, little, 56-page guide is a bit misleading. Dr Alexander's main concern is with novel-writing (in which he includes memoirs and creative non-fiction) rather than how to win writing contests such as short story contests, poetry competitions and the like. Readers who are interested in competing for such awards will undoubtedly find my own book, Write Ways to WIN WRITING CONTESTS: How To Join the Winners' Circle for Prose and Poetry Awards, NEW EXPANDED EDITION more helpful. The sub-title of Dr Alexander's guide, namely how to "influence agents and editors", gives an excellent indication of the range of his subject matter. All writers will undoubtedly find much of Dr Alexander's information useful, but his recommendations are mostly aimed at helping budding novelists get their work accepted and published.
