Excellent essays on writer's block, poor writing, etc.,
By A Customer
This review is from: On Writing, Editing, and Publishing: Essays Explicative and Hortatory (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
Essays by Barzun from the 1940s to the 1970s on such topics as writer's block and the discipline required to write, the fine art of translation, the ubiquity of poor writing, and the book publishing business. Superbly written. Most of these essays are still entirely true and eye-opening.

Barzun's collection of essays provides a kaleidoscopic view of a variety of aspects of writing, reading and publishing. A delight to read, the book does feel a little dated -- some of the references and situations that Barzun uses seem to suggest a much earlier time. But overall, an excellent collection.

A quick read and decent insights but not something I would recommend to lovers of essay.
