Review

...it really is the definitive guide for being successful in this genre. -- The Sunday Sun, May 20,2001

From the Back Cover

Erotica appeals to the primal instincts and senses of human beings. Millions buy it. Whole publishing companies are devoted to it. But writing erotica takes special skill: a writer must balance the graphic and the subtle, know how many details are too many, and understand the pacing of an erotic story, from sensuous build-up to satisfying climax.

Writing Erotica is packed with information for novice and professional writers alike. It examines the difference between erotica and pornography; how to get ideas for erotic stories; the differences in erotica for men, couples, and women; and how to give readers what they want. Along the way, it also provides practical advice on starting and finishing your manuscript and selling your work in the competitive erotica marketplace.

Other topics covered include: - Making use of your own fantasies - Turning ideas into stories - Creating atmosphere and characters - Getting the sex right - Learning the language of erotica - Using point of view effectively Writing Erotica also features interviews with masters of the genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining & informative, April 1, 2001
By
Ian Glavine (Springdale, Newfoundland Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Writing Erotica (Paperback)
A companion piece to van Belkom's previous writing how-to WRITING HORROR, this book does for erotica what WRITING HORROR did for horror fiction. He teaches you all the basics, point-of-view, dialogue, exposition, manuscript format, where and how to sell your work, and he discusses the various subgenres.

Some passages are copied verbatim from WRITING HORROR but arranged to teach you about writing erotica. There's a discussion of language (soft-core to hard-core), interviews with the genre's leading authors and editors and a nifty plotting device that'll have you writing stories in no time. All in all, a definitive guide for budding erotica writers. I recommend it as heartily as I did for WRITING HORROR.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Writing Erotica (Paperback)
My mailing address was screwed up through Amazon and pkg was (apparently) sent to a year old address then returned to vendor by PO.
I saw error when vendor sent msg that pkge was shipped but couldn't correct it in time.
Bottom line is I never received it even tho I have received several items over the past year at new address.
itmt I got stuck with postage.. both ways... damn..
