Knit it All Together: pull in the Pieces!, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Writing A Great Script Fast: Part 11 Setups & Short Films Plot Points (Amazon Instant Video)
Setups and payoffs are discussed with tons of examples on how to use these in your story to add suspense and tie story events together at key moments. If you are new to suing setups this class will get you planting them every scene. Covers multiple payoffs too and comedic ones to help plan funny moments or films.
Short film plot points are explained and several famous short films are broken down to see how they work. Without thinking about these basic three act plot points your story may drag and wonder. The plot points coming up for the feature film can be added to these basic ones too - this way you do not have to think up all of them at once.
When I used this with students in my film making group, they really "got it" when they saw the examples of suspense and pay off. Sheridan is a master at using examples to prove her points-- that plot is symbolically based and can be structured and mapped.
excellent. This one can stand on it's own as a lesson for a short film class.
