4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Eric W. Engler on April 13, 2007
Format: Paperback
This is a classic book, and one of the few books in existance that covers interactive BASIC compilers. Quickbasic 4.5 was in this category. Highly recommended.

Format: Hardcover
I came upon this book 25 years after its publication, after a full career, 20 years, in software and systems programming. The subject matter remains an interest of mine, for its challenges and its complexity. I only wanted to see if the author was up to the challenge of documenting the scope of its subject, and I'm pleased to report he is (or was). I cannot fault the book for any omissions or errors, judging by my experience in using products such as are explained here. The author sets a high standard for good and proper implementation of the software category. Students of Computer Science and commercial providers of such software would do well to study and follow the advice in this book. There a couple of buzzwords that appear to have fallen out of fashion used here, but there should be no great difficulty in following all that Mr. Brown has written. This book should experience a long lifetime of use in the software "trade", but this reviewer feels the days of quality implementations may be gone. Study this book and use it, and the reader should be equipped to produce some of the best software to be seen.
