About the Author

Thomas W. Benson, the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Rhetoric at Pennsylvania State University, holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University. A rhetorical critic and theorist, he is the editor of the series in Rhetoric/Communication of the University of South Carolina Press and has won a number of awards from communication associations.

More About the Author

Thomas W. Benson is the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Rhetoric at Penn State University in University Park, Pennsylvania.

He is a former editor of The Quarterly Journal of Speech; Communication Quarterly; and The Review of Communication, and a former fellow at the Shorenstein Center at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. In 1985 he founded CRTNET, a listserv for students and scholars interested in rhetoric and communication; since 1997 CRTNET has been owned by the National Communication Association. He is editor of the series in Rhetoric / Communication of the University of South Carolina Press.
