I really like this book. Even though it covers things lightly, it covers ALOT of topics!! The book flows well and the chapters make sense(the way they were placed). Again, it doesn't duel deeply in to the meaning of things, but it is great as a fast reference. The people I know that have the book, usually use it for writing legals, but it contains alot of other valuable info. Everything from a small view of surveying in the past, to water boundaries, to order of importance on monuments.Really good book.

This book is very informative, though a little bit dated. It made me realize what I was doing wrong in writing legal descriptions. It keeps in mind the surveyor's role along with the office person. The questions at the end of each chapter ensure understanding of the material. And it's actually quite readable, despite the dryness of the title! This book is a must for anyone taking their PS test.

THE book on legal descriptions. It also has chapters on general surveying topics. It's a must-have for a surveyor.

One of the Standard Texts for Land Surveying college courses,

This review is from: Writing Legal Descriptions (Hardcover)
Although this book was written something like 40 years ago, it is still one of the four standard texts that almost all college courses in Land Surveying require: Brown & Robillard's two "Boundary Control and Evidence" texts, the BLM Manual of Instructions on the Public Land Survey System, and G. Wattles on Legal Descriptions. Gurdon Watttles and his father were both surveyors in Southern California - Gurdon in the Title industry - and the contents of this text reflect this background, i.e. a California orientation, but the practice of writing a good property boundary description is universal and this book is the gold standard in that field.

THE reference for writing legal descriptions,
This review is from: Writing Legal Descriptions (Hardcover)
Virtually every title insurance/abstract association and virtually ever manual and guide I could find refers to this book. Although the language is a little dated; it is clear and concise. Very useful for the experienced title professional and an accessible reference book for newcomers.
