3.0 out of 5 stars Free, online resources more useful, November 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guide to Writing Quality Individualized Education Programs (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This book is well written, and the examples are decent, if you've never seen an actual IEP, but because each state (and sometimes even each school district) typically has its own IEP format, this book isn't terribly useful. Maryland (the state I am in) requires that IEP annual goals be taken directly from the Voluntary State Curriculum, at grade level, but this book only covers the very basics outlined by IDEA.

When researching (via Google) online resources as to how to write IEP Goals based on a curriculum (even when the student's academic functioning is far below grade level), I came across a number of very useful, (legally) free resources, often put together by actual state boards of education, or school districts, to aid their own teachers in meeting state requirements for an IEP.

That being said, I would recommend this book if 1) you have no time to look up other resources, and/or 2) you don't have internet access. It's well written, and gets you in the ball park, so it's better than nothing.

5.0 out of 5 stars IEP Tutorial, February 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guide to Writing Quality Individualized Education Programs (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This workbook was very helpful in getting an overall feel for the components of an IEP. The explanations were clear and direct. It gave a lot of examples and guidance for writing an IEP. The workbook portion was very helpful for practicing writing a mock IEP. I do wish it had had more information about IDEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Step-by-Step Guide, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Guide to Writing Quality Individualized Education Programs (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This was a very thorough and complete guide to writing IEPs. I found it to be easy to read and understand. It made writing an IEP much easier and helped me to write a good IEP.
