This book is simply written making it easy to understand. After reading this book, the 1 page reviews at the end of each chapter has served to quickly jog my memory of the material presented--making it easier to remember the many facets of great sales copy. I own several copywriting books and this book is the only one I refer back to.
This book is one of the best books I have ever read on a given topic.
As to the topic of copywriting and how Ray Edwards presents the topic. It was once said that any fool can pile complexity upon complexity, but, it takes genius to make a thing simple. I am not a copywriter, however, because of this book I have put together time tested elements presented by Ray Edwards to induce action by those who have read my copy.
Ray Edwards, if you happen to read this review, You are a Genius and Thank You very much for having written this book!!
Harold C. Avila, DDS, MS
The author is familiar with a number of useful copy writing techniques, from creating effective page headlines, to the importance of closing the sale with a potential customer.
There are several chapters of "Writing Riches" that help distinguish this book from others on web copy. These topics include how to write effective bullet points, what web copy has in common with movie trailers, and how to manage a successful product launch.
Where the book suffers is its lack of originality. While it does provide some interesting new suggestions, it's largely a collection of ideas that have appeared in countless copy writing books from the last decade. The book mostly focuses on the AIDA process (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action). While this information is valuable to someone new to writing web copy, most of the ideas will look completely familiar to anyone that has read other books on copy.
Another problem that I have with the book is the lack of case studies, or evidence that many of these techniques actually work. Books such as "Ca$hvertising" and "Web Copy That Sells" don't simply offer suggestions and theories, they back them up with concrete examples and psychological studies. So while I know that some of the proven AIDA techniques work, I'm hesitant to try some of the new suggestions that "Writing Riches" makes.
If you're new to writing copy for websites, I'd say that this is a decent book to add to your library.Read more ›
The promise here in Writing Riches is that you will discover one of the most valuable skills you can learn as a marketer. Copywriting is a skill and a craft and Ray gives you all the fundamentals you need to churn out copy that allows you, in Ray's words,"the ability to literally manipulate people's thinking and actions." Writing Riches will give you the ability to write good copy, which is one of the most powerful psychological tools known to man. You also might want to visit writingriches.com where this talented fellow will help you with your craft.
I am still taking the course as well as reading this book, and am know that I am in the hands of a master copywriter. Ray has the magic touch when it comes to copywriting and uses language in a way that I have never encountered before. I am struggling with his language and terminology.
One of the things that I strongly appreciate is the way Ray breaks writing down into the basic elements so that you are using a basic construction method to build your copy.
The second major bonus of Writing Riches is that each chapter ends with a review. For me this reinforced whether I had mastered the content or not. The reviews will also be a fabulous resource for me in the future when I am building my sites.
This is a book that will remain in my reference section as a book that I need fast access to when needed.
