From the Back Cover

The Best Available Guide to Mastering Sap ABAP/4 Programming Language! The massive amount of information and integration inherent to SAP makes it unique, but also makes programming within ABAP/4 a challenge. Now, for the first time, a world-class SAP coder reveals his own "reality-tested" solutions to typical programming tasks. More than a mere rehash of SAP's on-line and/or printed documentation, the author explores topics and techniques that are simply not covered, or not as clearly covered, elsewhere. From writing basic reports to performing SAP updates, dozens of examples show you just how to do it - or how to do it better! Key topics include: A detailed framework for creating an ABAP/4 program; Data retrieval and display; Developing an interface for data from legacy systems; Providing user interaction with displayed data; External data acess; Using the SAP debug facility. Perhaps most useful of all are the original shell programming routines, developed by the author to standardize and simplify coding. The accompanying CD-ROM contains all of the SAP code referenced in the text, along with detailed techniques for coding and specific explanations of the methods used.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, BUT ..., August 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Writing SAP ABAP/4 Programs (Paperback)
This is a well written book and makes easy reading, BUT it does not cover topics such as dialog programs, table controls, transactions, etc. I found this shortcoming to be a major disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exellent book for beginners, esp. without progr. background, December 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Writing SAP ABAP/4 Programs (Paperback)
A person who just starts his programming experience and it happenes to be ABAP/4 may find a well-organized way how to code some programming task. However, after initial exposure to ABAP/4 the person should run away from this book in order to get in-depth understanding of coding complex applications. The strong side of the book: consistency in conveying the material to novice programmers; the weak point: there's not a clear statement whom it's addressed for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lack of depth, July 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Writing SAP ABAP/4 Programs (Paperback)
If you are looking to write only "Hello World" in ABAP then this is your book. But if your job is to write production code then use the SAP online documentation or Ruediger and Wolfgang's book.
