Book Description

Pocket Essential series June 1, 2006

The recent explosion of unsolicited material written for the film industry has largely produced a mountain of wasted paper. The few who achieve success do so because they have shed the blood, sweat, and tears necessary to master the elaborate art and craft of screenwriting. This volume navigates a relatively painless path through the screenwriting labyrinth and offers an easy to digest step-by-step guide to writing a script from inception to completion. Areas addressed include research and development; genre; story and plot; audience; character; dialogue; and drafts. A glossary of commonly used jargon to further demystify the process is also included.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Pocket Essentials is a dynamic series of books that are short, snappy, and easy to read. Packed with facts as well as opinions, each book has all the key information you need to know about such popular topics as film, television, cult fiction, politics, and more. In addition to an introduction to the subject, each topic is individually analyzed and reviewed, examining its impact on popular culture or history. There¹s also a reference section that lists related web sites and weightier (and more expensive) books on the subject. For media buffs and students, these are great entry-level books that build into an essential library. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok, March 7, 2010
This review is from: Writing a Screenplay (Pocket Essential series) (Paperback)
This book covers a lot, and it's ok, but I disagree with the review comparing it with McKee. True to the premise of the series, the essentials are covered. There are some interesting points made too. However, if you opt to buy a bigger, better, course in screenwriting, you won't be spending much more to get it, and you won't be missing anything by not having this book.
