Book Description

0872204340 978-0872204348 June 1998
This book is an introduction to the conventions of writing with sources at the college level. Some readers will have been trained in writing with sources before coming to college; others will have had little or no training. Writing With Sources is addressed to both groups. Without a grasp of this information you risk taking valuable time away from the students creative process of writing and in certain circumstances could face disciplinary action. Even if you believe you already understand when and how to cite sources, you should compare your understanding with the instructions in this book.

Editorial Reviews

Review

An important, much-needed pedagogical tool, this short volume provides practica, easily implemented advice and guidelines to citing and acknowledging the source's for one's reports and arguments. Put in the hands of students as they enter university, it will serve them well throughout their undergraduate years and beyond. -- Ted Humphrey, Dean, University Honors College, Arizona State University.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Historiography!, December 18, 2000
By
Carolyn A. Kemp (Long Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Writing With Sources: A Guide for Students (Paperback)
This book is a great supplement for history students. It is short and to the point, it reads well and it has valuable information about integrating sources into term papers, theses and dissertations. It provides how-to information on writing historically that other writer's manuals do not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better to teach citation than to punish plagiarism, November 13, 2006
This review is from: Writing With Sources: A Guide for Students (Paperback)
Too many college writing guides tell students what *not* to do without giving them sufficient instruction on how to craft original papers. I assign this book to all my undergraduates, and I think it has helped considerably in cutting down instances of plagiarism and other misuse of sources.
