Kinda' a gimick, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Writing Strands 1 with CD (Writing Strands Ser) (Spiral-bound)
The CD, first of all, is just this guy, Dave, reminiscing about his now college age son Corey and the word games they used to play together. It's not a high quality production audio either, the guy coughs during the recording and just kind of rambles for a good amount of time about how unique they were in this word game stuff they did.
Well if you are the average involved homeschooling parent it's not all that foreign of a concept and you'll find you do a lot of the things in the booklet (yup, just a booklet) already. We do, though it's nice to have all the ideas down in one place, maybe try to focus on one a week or something...
It's not in any lesson plan format and it's geared to 2.5 year olds- 7 years olds. It has about 16 word "games" you can do with your child to help them learn how to use words better.
Actually with two children with speech delays it's got me thinking they should market this to Speech and Language Pathologists, I think ours would really like it.

Not really impressed, February 12, 2008
This review is from: Writing Strands 1 with CD (Writing Strands Ser) (Spiral-bound)
Not too many original ideas on prompting your child to use language and imagination. We were already implementing most of the ideas through daily play.
