A memorable recording,
This review is from: Of Writing / Of Violence (Audio CD)
This record is consistently lovely, occasionally stunning. I would buy it again for "Some Curious and Beautiful Maps" alone, the lyrics of which are breathtaking. Do The Silent Type have a completely unique sound? No. But it is clean, cohesive, and exactly suited to the poetic nature of the lyrics. A beautiful album.

I really enjoyed this album,
This review is from: Of Writing / Of Violence (Audio CD)
The atmosphere of this album lulls me into a good mood. Although the songs are incredibly mellow they are slightly catchy in a different kind of way. The consistency is also something to be admired. The album flows with excellent grace. There is great intensity in their songs with sudden bursts of volume. This is my favorite album to listen to while doing work because the music isn't distracting but it still has personality and I can dig it.

Surprising,

After leaving some feedback, amazon suggested I leave feedback for this album but I'm not sure why. Here's what I can say - I got a promo of this album about 5 years ago and was incredibly surprised with it. Traces of influence drawn from bands like Sigur Ros, or Coldplay at their best, make way for some very dynamic songs. The title track is full of swelling orchestral melodies that couple a gently hushed vocal performance. I don't know - if I remember correctly they were a young band out of Richmond, VA and didn't put anything out after this record. It's a shame because this is the kind of band that would really catch on in college dense areas surrounding Richmond. Five years after getting a free copy amidst 20 other albums at the same time, I remember this one as being something actually worth checking out.
