The best book on Writing Workshop that I've read.,

If you can only get one book on teaching writing using the Writer's Workshop model let it be this one. It's detailed, full of practical tips, but most important--you will be INSPIRED! I immediately started my own writer's notebook after I read this book. One caveat...this is not a book that you can pick up on Sunday night because you want to start the program on Monday morning. This book is written to be read and re-read, pondered and poured over. That having been said, this is NOT just a book of theory, it thoroughly and lovingly explains all the nuts-and-bolts of the workshop.

I love this book. It makes the writing workshop experience enjoyable. I went through Lucy Calkins training and then found Katie Ray and it all started to work together.

Although there is nothing wrong with the information in this book, or the writing, it is basically just a full book about "why" to have writing workshops, what the benefits are, etc and very little concrete information about "how" to set up writing workshops. This would be a fine book for a teacher training class to start a conversation about the purposes of writing workshops, but it did nothing for me. I was wanting some help in beginning a writer's workshop in my classroom but I learned nothing new.
