Review

"Carey Decevito gives her readers a nice balance of real life mixed with the fantasy of a whirlwind romance." - Cindy Meyer, The Book Enthusiasts

"Decevito is a very visually descriptive writer who draws you in to each and every aspect of the story with minimal effort on the reader's part. Her story is explicit and vividly visual without ever becoming crass. She walks a fine line with this one and creates something that is brilliant." - Jonel Boyko

"Like a chocolate mud cake with whipped cream. A light, sweet romance...heavy on sex and story." - Demelza Carlton, author of The Ocean's Gift series, The Nightmares Trilogy, & Water and Fire

"You'll have fun reading this book for awhile!" - Greg Strandberg, author of The Jongurian Mission, Tarot: The Mystery & The Mystique, Trouble in Jonguria

More About the Author

Born and raised in small town Northern Ontario, Canada, Carey Decevito has always had a penchant for reading and writing for as long as she can remember.

More than a decade later, with weeks of sleepless nights, where exhaustion had settled in to her everyday existence, she finally gave and put pen to paper (more like fingers to keyboard). She submitted to the dreams that plagued her insomnia. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Carey Decevito has two published works entitled Hot Communications and Once Written, Twice Shy which is part of a five-book series named The Broken Men Chronicles. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, the outdoors, travelling, and playing tourist in Canada's National Capital region. When life gets crazy, she seeks respite through her writing and reading. If all else fails, she knows there's never a dull moment with her prolific story-teller of a four-year-old daughter, her goofy husband and their two cats who she swears are out to get her.

Holy hot tamales! What a trip!

I love how this novel is written in the male POV. It adds a definite twist to the story. At the same time, there is such a brilliant flow, and the story is so well put together that you can't help but relate to the characters. Decevito is a very visually descriptive writer who draws you in to each and every aspect of the story with minimal effort on the reader's part. Her story is explicit and vividly visual without ever becoming crass. She walks a fine line with this one and creates something that is brilliant.

The main characters in this story are amazingly developed. You get to know them intimately as they get to know each other. It's quite interesting to see how they see each other and how they see themselves together. The supporting cast fits quite well in the story, and you get to know them in that capacity. I would have appreciated a bit more development as to who they were. It would have given the story's interconnectedness a bit more of a kick in the right direction.

Overall, this is a very intimate story that draws you in and won't let you go. Your emotions get completely wrapped up in the storyline, with some hot and bothered moments to break up the sadness. It's a brilliant trip for anyone who wants something a little out of the norm.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author/publisher/blog tour company in exchange for an honest review.

This is a nice little romance, a little steamy but nothing more. I think a lot of books kind of turn up the heat a bit too much these days, and you can never be quite sure what you're getting just be reading the book info. This one doesn't have any offensive language and, yes, it actually has a story! A long one too; you'll have fun reading this book for awhile!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was probably the hardest book I’ve ever reviewed because I have so many mixed feelings about it. Unlike other who rate a book based on grammatical errors I base mine on content. To warrant a five or four star the writer must capture me from the start and hold my interest throughout the book. The characters must be well developed and the storyline believable. While I did enjoy the book I found it was not only easy to put down but I would not return to it for a day or two.
The story is told completely from the males POV and while it has been done before I felt there was something missing this time. The story starts with the end of Paxton’s marriage then it jumps a year into the future. Paxton is separated from his wife, she is playing house with her lover and they share joint custody of their four year old son. His wife refuses to sign the divorce papers and Paxton has allowed her to keep his life in limbo. Over the course of the year he has carried on a relationship online with Alisa. It started as one writer complimenting another, blossomed into friendship and when she finally flies out to see him for the first time the relationship jumps right into sex.
So here are the downfalls. While the sex scenes were well written I felt the author depended too much on them to carry the reader through. She could have used less sex and developed the relationship between Alisa and Paxton. I felt cheated out of the beginning of the relationship. It was as if there was no base to start from and I never really felt the connection with the love story. The other issue I have is the ex-wife. She has repeatedly refused to sign his divorce papers. She was unfaithful in the marriage and leaves Paxton for her lover.

The book started off a little slow for me then it jumped right in the middle of a relationship I felt cheated that I didn't get to see grow.

With that said this was a really sweet love story that will pull at your heart string's. Paxton the father of a four year old Jasper and recently single found a love interest "Alissa" over their mutual love of writing. When Alissa and Jasper meet for the first time the two form a tight bond that furthers Pax's reasoning that she is the right woman for him.

There is a tragic illness and a selfless deed that pulls them all together.I might not have been witness to the beginnings of their relationship but I was their for the rest and it was amazing. I fell in love with Pax and his beautiful son Jasper. Paxton and Alissa were great together heating up the pages.

What a journey! I picked it up from what the synopsis stated, and have to say it blew me away. I laughed, cried, and event wanted to battle it out with one of the characters. But all in all it was a beautiful journey to accompany both characters as their love grew against all the hardships they encountered.

Truly highly recommended. Can't wait to read more from Carey Decevito.

Devastated by a failed marriage, Paxton takes refuge in his writing and his son Jasper. He meets Alissa in one of his online writing groups and their relationship blossoms into a great friendship. After months of chatting online and on the telephone, they decide to meet. Sparks fly and before they know it, Alissa and Paxton are much more than just friends. But there are old and new obstacles to overcome before they can truly take the next step.

Let me first say this: contemporary erotic romance is generally not my thing. Whilst I love to read romance, I find the anticipation and emotional connection much more exciting than a blow by blow account of the various positions possible for intimate relations. One of my biggest gripes about this particular genre is that I feel most novels sacrifice good plot and character development in order to fit additional sex scenes into the story.

That said, I have a keen interest in Indie writers and like to read the work of authors who travel in my social network circles. I’ve come across Carey Decevito’s name through various interactions and chose to step outside my comfort zone. It’s always good to broaden your horizons, I think.

The first thing that stood out for me was the fact that the novel is written from a male POV. The second, is that it’s not the typical kind of male you find in modern erotica. Paxton is no muscle-bound, egotistical hero. He may be easy on the eyes but there’s no hoard of women waiting to fall at his feet. Paxton is a modern man. He comes with emotional scars from a very real and messy divorce and a loveable little parcel of ‘baggage’ too.

There were parts of the story I felt were predictable and too good to be true.
