About the Author

David Melton is one of the most versatile and prolific talents on the literary and art scenes today. His literary works span the gamut of factual prose, analytical essays, newsreporting, magazine articles, features, short stories, poetry and novels in both the adult and juvenile fields. When reviewing his credits, it is difficult to believe that such an outpouring of creative efforts came from just one person. In sixteen years, twenty-two of his books have been published, several of which have been translated into a number of languages.

Mr. Melton has illustrated ten of his own books and three by other authors, while many ofhis drawings and paintings have been reproduced as fine art prints, posters, puzzles, calendars, book jackets, record covers, mobiles and note cards and have been featured in national publications.

While most artists and authors develop a creative format which utilized one particular style and approace, Mr. Melton adventurously searches for subjects that demand he adapt and create a unique and different style for each work. he insists that each of his books should have a distinct personality of its own.

Due to the versatility of his books, individually and collectively, they reach extremely diversified audiences of different ages and broad ranges of interest. The quality of his work has received enthusiastic acceptance and critical acclaim throughout the world.

Mr. Melton has also gained wide reputation as a guest speaker and teacher. He has spoken to hundreds of professional, social and civic groups relating the problems that confront parents and teachers of learning disabled and handicapped children and has influenced the mandates of change in the fields of special education and therapies for brain-injured children. He is also a frequent guest on local and national radio and television talk shows.

Since a number of Mr. Melton's books are enjoyed by children, he has visited hundreds of schools throughout the country as a principal speaker in Author-in-Residence Programs, Young Authors' Days, and Children's Literature Festivals.

I'm buying a second copy of this book, my first copy has fallen to pieces I've used it so often. The book is very step-by-step. Any interested adult can use this book to help children write the most amazing books:they're both amazing and books children are truly proud of and keep for years after.

I have used this text/guideline in my multi-grade classrooms for 7 years and love it. It works well with gifted students as well as typical kids. Highly suggest it as an alternative from the same old routine in language arts and graphic art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still fun..., February 20, 2005
This review is from: Written and Illustrated By--: A Revolutionary Two-Brain Approach for Teaching Students How to Write and Illustrate Amazing Books (Paperback)
My mother bought this book when I was nine and made myself and my two sisters create books. She really did have to make us do it in the beginning (we were less than enamoured) but by the end I loved it.

Since then I have made three more; the last of which I did in three days while on summer break from college. Even a decade later it was still a great deal of fun.
