Wrong Enemy, Wrong War is a military-political suspense novel, a sequel to Duty and Character. In Washington, egos and personal agendas sometimes cloud national objectives, even in the White House and the Pentagon. The Pentagon is a complex mixture of military and civilian authorities. From majors to four-star generals, the interface among the Pentagon staff officers, battlefield commanders and their political bosses is often tense, complicated and fragile. This book is a study in all those complexities. Domestic spying, murder, assassination plots, sexual indiscretions, secrets and lies swirl around a fictional conflict with Iraq.In 2003, Colonel (Ret.) Jeff Freeman was recalled from retirement to work on the history of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He reviewed nearly 200,000 classified documents and sat in on countless meetings, including some with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Richard Myers. He participated in interviewing key officials such as General (Ret) Tony Zinni, Central Command; Lieutenant General (Ret) Jay Garner, former Director of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance (Iraq); and Lieutenant General (Ret) Greg Newbold, former Joint Staff Operations Director. He draws on that experience and thirteen years in the Pentagon to bring this novel to life.
