Say it like it is,

What a refreshing pleasure it is to have a Laurie Rosenwald book in your hands. Bright and funny and sophisticated and wise and playful and creative and tactile and amusing and most of all, so deadly honest, which we could all use a little more of in this world.

Rosenwald exalts us with extreme truth expressed with so much original spunk and clarity, you'll feel inspired to bake Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Muffins," a concept introduced in the book where you combine ingredients which don't go together...and YET THEY DO! Like beets and chocolate. Like vegetarians and meat. Laurie speaks in fluent collage. She combines bits of images, paint, rants and ideas like a surrealist writing a survival manual. And the best thing is, IT ALL MAKES SENSE. I have never met a book so vastly original, strange, poetic, hilarious, helpful and hip all at once. Laurie Rosenwald makes THINKING FUN... which is why this is an excellent book for all minds that love to frolic.

This is a great book for teenage girls to flip through. It's not very educational, but it has some good pointers about self-acceptance and being unique. The style of the book is like a collage with pictures and articles. I wouldn't use it as a main source to teach self-esteem, but if it's great for a teenager to flip through.

Entertaining and hilarious,

This book is hysterical. Laurie Rosenwald's observations are funny, dead-on and unique, and she has a way of make social criticisms wildly entertaining. I always enjoy her work, and I hope she does more of this in the future. It's a great book for teen girls, sure, but her humor and style is genderless and ageless.

Super Way Fun,

I love love love this book. Where else can you get in-your-face brutal honesty that is socially acceptable from obnoxious teenagers but not from those of us who still kick and scream over stuff that other grown ups, well, think that we should just get over? I am not a big Darwin fan (yeah, go ahead, I'm used to that), but in the Laurie Rosenwald world, I could totally sit beside him on a plane. A must have.
Don't miss Dave in his Peruvian chullo hat (he is so bad!), excellent McCullers references, warnings about foreign dinner conversation, and advice to boys on eating soup. Way cool and very informative. This should be used as a textbook for, um, something or other.

Dumb,

While the title is amusing and its collage design has potential to be fascinating, the author includes too many inside jokes and random statements. There is no flow to it. I did not enjoy reading this book. Some of the author's other works are much-improved.

Laurie Rosenwald IS the BOMB!,
This review is from: All the Wrong People Have Self-Esteem: An Inappropriate Book for Young Ladies* (Paperback)
Buy this book! Laurie brings a fresh, new, amazing approach to children's books. A mix of cut paper, collage, found objects, and information presented in a fresh insightful way. Laurie's work is a high wire juggling act that all works together, bold design, art, and typography.

Being the parent of a 14-year-old girl I'm happy to have found Rosenwald's book. At first glance it may seem flip or a bit goofy, but there is quite a bit of earnest, useful advice for young women that is written in a direct and heartfelt matter. Highly recommended.

ALL THE WRONG PEOPLE HAVE SELF ESTEEM,
By Augusta Wood (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All the Wrong People Have Self-Esteem: An Inappropriate Book for Young Ladies* (Paperback)
ALL THE WRONG PEOPLE HAVE SELF ESTEEM is an inappropriate book for young ladies, or frankly, anybody else. if you've ever stolen a lipstick this book is for you. if you've ever felt that you don't deserve bottled water, this book is for you. if you're a vegetarian but you eat meat, this book is for you. it could get you kicked out of yoga. and that's a promise. - All the Wrong People Have Self-Esteem: An Inappropriate Book for Young Ladies* starred review in PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY! http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6624072.html?industryid=47139 |
