4.0 out of 5 stars A real pleasant surprise, December 13, 1999
By A Customer
(Actually, I'd rather give it 3.5 stars, but it's closer to 4 than 3.) After "Spy Hard", I was really prepared not to like "Wrongfully Accused". It has received flak enough in the papers, and I actually thought Leslie Nielsen had been playing this kind of part for too long and that there was nothing he could do that I hadn't seen before. Boy, was I wrong. He's just been warming up. Though not as funny as the first Naked Gun film (The film against which I now measure all comedies), it's way better than "Spy Hard". I laughed real hard at some small touches like the bouncing prisoner transport bus (it's not intelligent humour, okay, but it looked - and sounded - so silly, I had to laugh in spite of myself !), and the scene where Nielsen was chased by the derailed train from hell (The scene where the train "peeped" out from its "hiding place" - you gotta see it to understand it - was almost horrific enough for a horror movie!). And Richard Crenna was simply wonderful in his Tommy Lee Jones parody. But no-one has better delivery than Nielsen. No-one but him could say lines like "You're lying like a banana ! -They come in big yellow bunches !" and the "Now all I have is a one-way ticket to Palookaville !" speech and make them sound believable. But, as with all his comedies, you probably have to like this particular genre to really appreciate it. I do, and I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, Good features, Full-Screen?, July 18, 2002
This review is from: Wrongfully Accused (DVD)
Besides Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, this is definately one of Leslie Nielsen's funniest, spoofing over 35 movies, including THE FUGITIVE. You can watch this over and over and still laugh and laugh even throughout the entire credits. This was written, directed, and produced by Pat Proft, creator of the POLICE ACADEMY, NAKED GUN, and HOT SHOTS! films.

The DVD itself was released in 1998, the same year as the movie. For a movie and small as this in 1998, this DVD has lots of special features, more than some DVDs released today. This DVD features a DVD-ROM trivia game, an interview with the cast, many trailers, and a slide show. On top of that there are also two featurettes. The first, (VISUAL F/X) is located in the special features menu and is an 8-minute documentary of the special effects in the movie. The second, (PRODUCTION NOTES) is located in the "about the film" menu and is a 5-to-10-minute documentary about the movie itself and some additional special effects in the movie.

The movie is also presented in a theatrical Dolby Digial 5.1 soundtrack, which I thought was quite pleasing for such an old DVD. During some of the action scenes, the surround effect can be heard with a light bass. The picture quality was very pleasing as well with very colorful and bright images, however a few minor distractions here and there, but nothing to take your eye off the screen.

You are probably wondering why I gave this movie 4 stars. That is simply because the movie was very featured in a full-frame format, as opposed widescreen. Besides that, if you are a spoof fan, go out and rent or even buy this movie and you will definately love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leslie Nielsen, King of Slapstick, May 3, 2004

This review is from: Wrongfully Accused (DVD)
If you haven't watched this outragously funny movie, watch it because its a guarantee that it will keep you laughing till you gut busts, great spoof from famous movies and a really funny story to go with it, this movie has earned it's position as the greatest slapstick movie of all time, i recommend with this that you watch another classic slapstick comedy, 'Airplane'. 10/10.
