4.0 out of 5 stars A real pleasant surprise
(Actually, I'd rather give it 3.5 stars, but it's closer to 4 than 3.) After "Spy Hard", I was really prepared not to like "Wrongfully Accused". It has received flak enough in the papers, and I actually thought Leslie Nielsen had been playing this kind of part for too long and that there was nothing he could do that I hadn't seen before. Boy, was I wrong...

Parodies and satires can be great fun or they can drag on unmercifully. This film does something very difficult; it takes a middle road. It is not the great spoof that some of Nielsen's comedies are but neither is it a complete write off. It is not great. It is not awful. It is only fair.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real pleasant surprise, December 13, 1999

(Actually, I'd rather give it 3.5 stars, but it's closer to 4 than 3.) After "Spy Hard", I was really prepared not to like "Wrongfully Accused". It has received flak enough in the papers, and I actually thought Leslie Nielsen had been playing this kind of part for too long and that there was nothing he could do that I hadn't seen before. Boy, was I wrong. He's just been warming up. Though not as funny as the first Naked Gun film (The film against which I now measure all comedies), it's way better than "Spy Hard". I laughed real hard at some small touches like the bouncing prisoner transport bus (it's not intelligent humour, okay, but it looked - and sounded - so silly, I had to laugh in spite of myself !), and the scene where Nielsen was chased by the derailed train from hell (The scene where the train "peeped" out from its "hiding place" - you gotta see it to understand it - was almost horrific enough for a horror movie!). And Richard Crenna was simply wonderful in his Tommy Lee Jones parody. But no-one has better delivery than Nielsen. No-one but him could say lines like "You're lying like a banana ! -They come in big yellow bunches !" and the "Now all I have is a one-way ticket to Palookaville !" speech and make them sound believable. But, as with all his comedies, you probably have to like this particular genre to really appreciate it. I do, and I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, Good features, Full-Screen?, July 18, 2002
This review is from: Wrongfully Accused (DVD)
Besides Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, this is definately one of Leslie Nielsen's funniest, spoofing over 35 movies, including THE FUGITIVE. You can watch this over and over and still laugh and laugh even throughout the entire credits. This was written, directed, and produced by Pat Proft, creator of the POLICE ACADEMY, NAKED GUN, and HOT SHOTS! films.

The DVD itself was released in 1998, the same year as the movie. For a movie and small as this in 1998, this DVD has lots of special features, more than some DVDs released today. This DVD features a DVD-ROM trivia game, an interview with the cast, many trailers, and a slide show. On top of that there are also two featurettes. The first, (VISUAL F/X) is located in the special features menu and is an 8-minute documentary of the special effects in the movie. The second, (PRODUCTION NOTES) is located in the "about the film" menu and is a 5-to-10-minute documentary about the movie itself and some additional special effects in the movie.

The movie is also presented in a theatrical Dolby Digial 5.1 soundtrack, which I thought was quite pleasing for such an old DVD. During some of the action scenes, the surround effect can be heard with a light bass. The picture quality was very pleasing as well with very colorful and bright images, however a few minor distractions here and there, but nothing to take your eye off the screen.

You are probably wondering why I gave this movie 4 stars. That is simply because the movie was very featured in a full-frame format, as opposed widescreen. Besides that, if you are a spoof fan, go out and rent or even buy this movie and you will definately love it.

If you haven't watched this outragously funny movie, watch it because its a guarantee that it will keep you laughing till you gut busts, great spoof from famous movies and a really funny story to go with it, this movie has earned it's position as the greatest slapstick movie of all time, i recommend with this that you watch another classic slapstick comedy, 'Airplane'. 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review..., October 23, 2000
This review is from: Wrongfully Accused (DVD)
I thought this was one funny movie. Neilson always brings out comedy in the other movies flaws. The main story line is he is accused of murder, and he must go on a hunt to find the real killer. The movie really spoofs the Fugitive, being that he does everything that Ford did, just a bit funnier.

In spoofs, there really is no plot, exept the title. For example, Airplane!, Scary Movie, Mafia, Spy Hard etc.. When you see a spoof, you know it took a lot of time and effort to do. There were pretty good effects in the film too.

The plot is OK, it is what is right for Leslie Neilson. I hopoe he continues. Do you understand the guy is nearly 80 years old? The stuff he does in his films, well most 60 year olds can not do. Congrats.

Thanks,

R Y A N

5.0 out of 5 stars Even the credits are funny, December 22, 2004

From the moment the words "Leslie Nielson is... Leslie Nielson... in: Wrongfully accused" appear on the screen, you'll know (if you like the genre) that you're in for a treat. The jokes "are like bannanas: they come in big yellow bunches", and will get you laughing so hard that you might end up with a plate of spaghetti wrapped around your arm. In this movie, Nielson, portraying (Jack) Ryan Harrison (Ford), is in trouble. He "has a gun, not with him, but he's got one", and he's been framed for the murder of a famous diplomat, Hibbing Goodhue, the husband of Lauren Goodhue. When Harrison arrives at the house for a romantic meeting with Lauren (and to bring some 2% milk for her), he is attacked by a mystery man with one arm... and one leg and one eye. He is taken on a pleasant bus ride destined for "a hellish prison", but the bus suffers an unfortanate accident involving a bannana peel, which allows Harrison to escape his fate and attempt to prove his innocence.

The escape of several prisoners destined for prison catches the attention of Police man Fergus Falls (the first name is spelled way off, sorry), who brilliantly parodies Tommy Lee Jones from both US Marshals (which I've actually seen) and the Fugitive (Which I still need to see). He has his work cut out for him though, since Harrison is "as slick as a lizard in Jerry Lewis's hair" and, with Harrison slowly bringing the true perpitrators to Falls' attention, he realizes that "this case has more twists and turns than Chubby Checker in a blender".

Harrison also has help from the beautiful Cass Lake, whose motives are unclear, and whom Harrison can never trust. Will they fall in love, or will Harrison leave her, quoting Beatles lyrics with wild abandon? Will he find the one armed, one legged, one eyed man before he attempts an assassination with a bionic leg? Will Harrison ever get the diaper smell out of his clothes? You'll just have to watch the movie to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Ton Of Fun For Film Buffs, May 2, 2006

Since "The Fugitive" is one of my all-time favorites, this takeoff on it was a lot of fun for me to watch. Hey, sometimes it's best to laugh at ourselves and the things we like. For much of it, this movie was laugh-out-loud funny.

It helped not only to know "The Fugitive" story well but also "North By Northwest," "Casablanca" "Titantic," "Star Wars" and many, many other films, both classic and modern-day. The more familiar you are with movies, the more of these "inside" jokes are going to make you laugh. Being a movie buff, a lot of these gags connected and made me really have a good time watching this Leslie Nielsen farce.

Be warned, parents: this is not a family comedy. There are tons of sexual innuendos, so typical of today's comedies....but overall, this is really funny stuff and highly recommended if you watched a lot films in your lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a crack-up!, December 23, 2005
This review is from: Wrongfully Accused (DVD)
Leslie Nielsen "IS BACK!" This time he plays Ryan Harrison who has been "Wrongfully Accused!" And like the movie The Fugitive, Ryan must find the one-armed, one-legged, one-eyed criminal to clear his name. Lots of good slapstick comedy that only Leslie Nielsen can deliver. The first time I seen Mr. Nielsen act was when he played a wounded colonel being treated at the old 4077 in the TV series M*A*S*H (season 1 episode titled "The RingBanger") If this movie don't crack a smile. Then your sense of humor needs a little fine-tuning.

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie is accused of being incrediably funny, July 7, 2001
This review is from: Wrongfully Accused [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Wrongfully accused is a wonderfull movie. Leslie Neilson returns yet again to do another parody movie that delivers lots of laughs and gags. The plot of this movie is simple. Leslie is a famous violin player who visits a women and finds a guy looking to murder somebody. After yelling "Your a imposter!" Leslie starts to fight him in the dark during a thunder storm. During the fight the burglurs arm, leg, and eye fall out before he knocks leslie out. Leslie wakes up and escapes from being killed by the state and tries to clear his innocence. From there on the movie mostly relies on gags and jokes at popular movies. Everything from "The empire strikes back" to "Lord of the dance" is made fun of here. Heck, theres even a baywatch joke! But all of those, while still incrediably funny, are pale in comparison to the absolute funniest joke of all, the "North by Northwest" joke. I'm not going to spoil it, but let me say that you should go to the bathroom before watching this joke. I could write over 10 pages of all of the jokes alone, but you have to see it yourself to get it. Dont miss this one.

The Good: Incredibly funny, very entertaining

The bad: not much of a plot

And the Ugly: none.

First off,I loved "The Fugitive" and the other movies this movie spoofs, and spoofs well I might add, but I also love a good laugh and this movie provides those in abundance. Nielsen is at his best as is the supporting cast, especially Richard Crenna his send up of the T.L.Jones character is brutally funny.Trust me, if you want to laugh watch this movie, although you will probably have to rewind it several times to get all the jokes you missed while you were laughing.

The main target for this parody is THE FUGITIVE. It gets in some effective shots at that great thriller but it also takes a few free throws from some other shows as well. They are mostly funny but not spectacular.

This is worth a watch if you are in the mood for a silly comedy but it should not be a first choice.
