Biography

Named after a cult martial arts film, the collective of nine New York rappers known together as Wu-Tang Clan became one of the most influential hip-hop groups ever following the release of debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. 36 Chambers was so well-received that it launched each member into solo careers, which have also spawned several more acclaimed albums. Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Explicit Version featuring the Wu's biggest hits as well as classics from several of the members' solo endeavors, this CD collection is an essential part of the Hip Hop canon. In 1993, nine young men, Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killah, UGod, Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa, emerged from the Staten Island projects to form one of the most successful Rap groups of all time. For over a decade, the Wu-Tang Clan operated as a fluid alliance of exceptionally talented MCs, establishing themselves as one of the most significant musical collectives of the era, as well as individual artists who challenged convention with thought provoking lyrics and beats.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Wu-Tang "best of"... yay..., November 18, 2008
By Nedm (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
To start off, I love the Wu-Tang Clan. I've been listening to the clan since highschool: I've bought more than my fair share of Wu as well as Wu-solo releases (recently I was thoroughly impressed with Gza's Pro-Tools). Upon hearing another Wu-Tang best of was in the works, I was fairly excited. The last best of, while being a solid collection of Wu standards sounded like it was missing something else. I, like most Wu fans, own all of the studio releases and therefore have a good majority of the songs on the Wu-Tang best of. With Story of the Wu-Tang I was thoroughly excited: I expected your typical best of but I was also hoping for a second disc of b-sides, unreleased material, or even live tracks. Heck, even a dvd would have been fine. Story of the Wu-Tang lacks just that: a good portion of the songs on this disc were also on the last best of. I see no real need for picking this album up and am rather disappointed. I'll stick to listening to Wu-Chronicles and 36 Chambers while awaiting the next Wu collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to introduce yourself to probably some of the greatest Hip-Hop ever., May 30, 2009
By Derek Rubin (Wellington, West Palm Beach, FL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've been getting in Wu-Tang alot over the past few months, and I wanted a best-of compiliation with some of their best tracks for the car ride. This definitely did the trick. It has all of their immortal classics, like "Protect Ya Neck", "Mystery of Chessboxing", and "Wu-Tang Clain Ain't Nothing to F' Wit", along with alot of other gems from both the Wu-Tang releases, and the members' solo albums. "Winter Warz" and "Daytona 500" were included, both Ghostface Killah classics, and "Incarcerated Scarfaces" an excellent Raekwon track. It was also nice to see some of the post-36 Chambers classics like "Triumph" and "Reunited".

There were a couple of tracks that were a real shame not to have been thrown in though. Uzi (Pinky Ring) is a great track for getting into the Wu-Tang Clan, and is definitely a gem among their later releases, but is sadly omitted. Also even though I loved "Iron Man" by Ghostface Killah, they should've emphasised more of his later albums imo. I'm not the only Wu-Tang fan that thinks Supreme Clientele is the finest Wu-Tang solo album, and alot of Ghostface's other later songs are omitted. I would've totally swapped "Winter Warz" (as good as it is) with another more unique Ghostface track to show his flexibility, like "Apollo Kids", "Ghost Showers", or even "The Forest" if they wanted to make things itneresting.

Also I would've loved to see more from Cuban Linx by The Chef. I was real happy to see "Incarcerated Scarfaces", but I was shocked to see "Ice Cream" and "Criminology" omitted. I don't know a single Wu-Tang fan who doesn't love "Ice Cream" (and it includes many of the members).

Also on another note, what was Cappadonna's "Run" doing here? Ghostface's version is ridiculously better, and includes Jadakiss. It would've been great to have.

Even though I would've picked a different song selection, the bottom line is that this CD is packed with CLASSICS. Gold stuff, even if it ain't perfect, this is a great CD to acquant youself wit the Clan. I play it in my car all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars WU.... The Saga Continues., November 19, 2008
On this album are some classic tracks, that take you through the years. It's pretty much singles from each one of their group releases. If you want b-sides or rarities, invest in Mathematics presents, Wu Tang Clan Unreleased album. And yes, there is a dvd version, documenting The Story of the Wu Tang Clan. Sold separately, unfortunately. Wu Tang Forever. R.I.P. Ol' [...]
