5.0 out of 5 stars Out of print? Say it ain't so!, September 12, 2006
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
This is the all-time best children's book ever written. No, it's the all-time best book ever written, period. I bought my first copy in 1987 to read to my baby daughter, and the first time I started to read it, I laughed so hard that I couldn't finish. The kid didn't find it all that amusing, but her nickname still, though she is a Junior in college, is Wuggie. The names of the characters are absolutely ridiculous, and I could so relate to Lunchbox Louie, the dad who is the only one who seems to notice the obvious. I've bought hundreds of copies of this book to give away over the years, and I like to keep a few on hand for that purpose, and now I can't. It's just not right.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Shame that This Book is Out of Print!, July 25, 2005
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
I first bought this book in the late 1980s when looking for good read aloud books for my youngest brother. It made me laugh out loud reading it in the bookstore so I bought it for him and he enjoyed it immensely too. It's almost impossible to read this aloud without cracking up, with the absurd story (dad brings home a cat that keeps growing bigger, and then he brings home progressively larger animals to compare it to) and especially the brilliantly weird names (Lunchbox Louie, King Waffle, Papercup Mixmaster, Exploding Poptart). This is a classic of zany kid humor that is great fun for adults to read over and over, too. I'd love to buy it for my little nieces and nephews---please bring it back into print!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wuggie Norple Story, February 23, 2000

This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ! For the last 6 years, I have only been able to locate ONE copy of this book, and that was at our public library. My son's school library does not even have a copy (shame, pitiful shame). What a treasure we stumbled upon when we first checked this book out some 2001 trips to the library ago. Daniel Pinkwater has an uncanny imagination that sucks readers of all ages in with his witty, nonsense storyline. Today I'm presenting this story to my son's second grade class...and I'm sure my son will spew the words of the book from memory. Check it out for yourself~ plenty of laughter and smiles are sure to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Picture Book Around!, April 11, 2000
By
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
My mom used to read this book to my younger brother and I all the time when we were little (I'm 13 now...still love the book..). We used to laugh and laugh. I still do when I read this at bedtime, just for kicks. It's great! The names of the characters are hilarious and the dad plays a whistle made out of a carrot! C'mon now, that's awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Funniest KIDS book ever!!!, December 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
When I checked this book out of my local library (years ago) the librarians giggled and wished me luck. When I opened it that night and read it to my 2 year old, I knew why they were laughing... and wishing me luck!! This is the best book I've ever read for children and it is great fun (though almost impossible) to read aloud. The pictures are by Tomie DePaola and fit the story so well. My kids would beg for me to read it again and again, because they loved to collapse in laughter while I stumbled over the zany names. Adult friends have enjoyed trying to read this aloud, too! It gives your brain and tongue a real workout!! Highly recommended, along with Tooth-Gnasher Super Flash, and Wempires. Doodleflute too!! Daniel Manus Pinkwater is a wonderful human being!

5.0 out of 5 stars Late to the party, but glad I got here!, October 14, 2009

This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
Although I studied children's lit in school and had, at one time, several Dr. Seuss books committed to memory, I remained sadly ignorant of Wuggie Norple until the last of my five children was about six years old. One lucky day, we encountered a copy of the book in the endocrinologist's office. I don't even know what a children's book was doing there, but there it was nevertheless. My son and I laughed so hard while reading this aloud--we took it home!! I brought it back the next time we went, but the office staff said we should keep it since we liked it so much. It is an absolute sin that this book is now out of print!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real pick-me-up, November 23, 2008
I can't believe this book would EVER go out of print. As a harried teacher, I'd had one of my worst days ever, when this book arrived after school. Alone in my classroom, I read it aloud, and was almost instantly transformed. I laughed and laughed. I later read it to many, and covered it with clear contact paper to preserve it. Tho I often lend books, this one has never left my possession. I would love to be able to buy it to give to others. Please, please reprint this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars almost in tears, March 21, 2007
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
Daniel Pinkwater is one of THE most profound children's authors of our time. His state-it-like-it-is style of writing appeals to the creative minds of children. Adults find his style of writing refreshing and many times, hysterical. It is an absolute shame that The Wuggie Norple Story is out of print. I have recently graduated from college, and was doing some quick research for a classroom activity for a group of preschoolers based on The Big Orange Splot when I found out the news about The Wuggie Norple Story. While The Big Orange Splot is also a fabulous book, no book has made me laugh as hard as Wuggie Norple. At the age of 22 I quite vividly remember my mom and dad reading Wuggie Norple to me as a bed time story. A lot of my memories of childhood revolve around the always important bed time story. Some of my FONDEST memories involove this story in particular. It was THE bed time story of choice, and the humor of it makes me roll with laughter even to this day. My heart sinks when I think about all the people that do not, and will not ever know this book. As soon as I found out, I went home to make sure I still had a copy, and I told my mom (a 2nd grade teacher) to secure her classroom set. This is a book that is very dear to me and many others as far as I can tell from reading the outrage of other Pinkwater fans. If anyone knows anyway to bring this book into back into print, then by all means share the knowledge. It seems that everyone who reads this book has heartfelt ties to it. I am willing to bet that myself, along with many others would be willing to put forth some effort to revive this treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes My Kids Laugh Every Time We Read It, March 23, 2005
By
This review is from: The Wuggie Norple Story (Paperback)
My family checked this book out from our public library. My 3 and 5 year old kids love it! The simple story involves a cat that grows bigger every day and a wacky family that disagrees about how big the cat actually is. The characters have ridiculous names that never fail to make my kids laugh....the little boy in the story is "King Waffle" and the dog "Freckleface Chilibean". Cute pictures, too. We've probably read this one AT LEAST 100 times! I would buy a copy -- if I could.
