Up Ump, Wuggly Ump,

This is another lovely Gorey book. A nice add. to your collection. It's short and funny, mildly twisted (that's Gorey for ya) but still okay for kids.

Wuggly Ump,
This review is from: The Wuggly Ump (Hardcover)
One of my favorite Edward Gorey books. It may make you wonder what is hiding in the darkest corner of your room or hallway. Not recommended for small children.

I read this book as a child and was fascinated with it. I can even recall certain lines tho the book itself was lost in one of many moves. It appeals to certain childhood fears and fantasies and will stay with you for a lifetime. I recommend it to everyone adults included. The drawings are simple and complement the story perfectly. I just love this book.

I bought this book because a friend very knowledgeable about children's literature recommended it for my two great-nephews (two-and-a-half-year-old twins). My niece was delighted to receive it; read it right away herself; and said the boys enjoyed it.

Parents, beware: Nightmare producer,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wuggly Ump (Hardcover)
This book gave me nightmares 30 years ago. My kids brought it home from school recently, and it gave them nightmares, too. It's not that it is overtly bad--in today's violent world, the images seem harmless. But there is something so creepy about the thing coming to get the children, and then doing so, that it seeps into the brain on a level that leads young kids to be terrified. Spare your kids, and yourself, if you want to sleep.
