5.0 out of 5 stars Review from a Philippine Nena fan Who Understands German

I like Nena a lot, so i'm afraid that i will not be too objective. Nena has been great and she'll always be. Regarding this album; album is softer than the others but contains some great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from a Philippine Nena fan Who Understands German, June 7, 2000

This is Nena's( i.e. Gabriele Susanne Kerner's ) first solo album after the original Nena band broke up and it contains not only German-language songs, but also English-language and French-language songs( i.e. "Hero" and "La Vie C'est La Chance", respectively ). The variety of the songs involves both reflective and insightful songs and the most insightful of all the songs is undoubtedly "Wunder gescheh'n". In the song "Schlaflied" lies an extremely unique introduction: Nena and her mother are communicating as an infant communicates with its mother. Although it is the shortest song in the album, it has a lot of insight. Hence, I highly recommend this album to those who appreciate this insights in songs.

In order to at least comprehend the meaning of the non-English song titles, here are the English translations of the non-English song titles:

1. Wunder gescheh'n( Miracles Happen )
2. Du bist ueberall( You Are Everywhere )
3. Hero( English Title )
4. Schlaflied( Sleeping Song/Song for Sleeping )
5. Weisses Schiff( White Ship )
6. Im Rausch der Liebe( In the Rapture/Ecstasy of Love )
7. La Vie C'est La Chance( Life Is Opportunity )
8. Keine Langeweile( No Boredom )
9. Steht auf( Stand Up/Get Up )
10. Abschied( Farewell/Parting )

5.0 out of 5 stars 1st SOLO Album, February 1, 2003
This review is from: Wunder Gescheh'n (Audio CD)
This was Nena's first solo album after the band split and Nena faced a personal tragedy in her life. This is a very artistic and serious album and the songs are very inspiring. Wunder Gescheh'n and Wach Auf are my absolute favorites, but Hero and Du bist Uberall are up there too! What a terrific album! I love it! ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., April 23, 2001

It seems that Nena always want to do something different. If you thought Nena was only "99 Luftballons", think twice, when you listen to this album you'll be surprised. There are many jewels on this album, but specially "Du bist überall" and "Steht auf". With "Hero", you'll fall in love with her. If you live in Mexico, and all over the world, I recommend this to everyone.

The title song apparently was a huge hit in Germany in 1989, but I bought this album mainly to get one of the other songs: "Keine Langeweile". When it arrived I discovered that I am also quite fond of at least one of the other songs: "Hero". That's the only one on the album that's in English (one is in French and the other eight in German). "Hero" appears to be a pregnant woman addressing her fetus, speculating about what kind of person it will be. I think Nena may have been pregnant with her twins when she wrote this (and both of the twins are now parents themselves).

Why am I so fond of Nena? If I could say something about that, then you could judge its applicability to yourself. But here's something you can judge: recently, individual songs from this album became available for download from amazon, and you can listen to excerpts. (They've been individually downloadable for a long time on the German amazon website (amazon.de) but when I tried to buy some of them that way, I got a notice about "geographische Einschränkungen", since I'm not in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. But that's no longer a problem in this case.)

If you like Nena, you'll like this. It's a little softer than the mid-eighties.
