Wurst Case Scenario makes a good story,
By scarletsapphire (MA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Paperback)
I've read the other reviews posted and the majority of the reviewers seem to think that the first book in the series, "Truth or Dairy" was better than "Wurst Case." Unfortunately, this is true. Fortunately, this does not mean that "Wurst Case" was as horrible as some people make it sound. It just means that "Truth or Dairy" was outstanding. In fact, "Wurst Case" was a very enjoyable, funny book. Courtney's often sarcastic humor is something that anyone can relate to and laugh at. The book is down-to-earth and Catherine Clark has the ability to make the reader feel as if she is Courtney's new best friend. This novel takes place on a college campus in rural Wisconsin, the land of cheese and meats. Good news for some, it is absolutely unthinkable for Courney, a strict vegan used to working in cute cafés in her hometown in Colorado. What's worse is that by going to Cornwall Falls for College, Courtney is separated from her boyfriend, Grant, and forced to room with a crazy, brainiac, Wisconsin native, Mary Jo. However, in spite of all the downsides of her college life, Courtney is able to find the sunny part and use her charm and sarcastic wit to pull the story together and in to something enjoyable. Bottom line is that this was a great, absolutely hilarious book that I definitely reccommend to Princess Diary fans in love with Mia's humor... it's something Courtney and her share.

More realistic than you think,
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Paperback)
I loved Truth or Dairy and I was pretty worried when I read some of the reviews on here. But I have to say that it was a great, funny read and reminded me of what college was like in a way no other book has (yes, I am a grown-up--sort of). The main character is sometimes annoying, but she actually realizes that! There aren't whole lot of books about college (believe me, its not the melodramatic experience you see on Felicity for most of us) and this one captures much (but not all) of the essence of those first few months. I have to admit it's probably a 4, but I wanted to counterbalance some of the negative reviews.

A good, fun book!!,
By Kate Morgan (US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Hardcover)
I read the prequel to this book, Truth or Dairy, and loved it, so I picked up this book. It's just as good.Courtney goes off to college in Wisconsion, leaving her boyfriend, Grant, a day's drive away. At times this book was hilarious, and at others it's sad. Court's first real friend is a girl named Thyme. Thyme is pretty different: she doesn't shave and she constantly has an arguement, but Courtney befriends her. Courtney works at a ridiculous place called "Bagle Finagle", where she makes more friends; sweet Ben and hilarious Mark/Marc/Marque/Marcus (he keeps changing his name tag). The end is a little disappointing, but was worth reading all the way. While I liked this book, I still thought Truth or Dairy was better. Worth reading, though.

Crazy Courtney heads to college!,
By
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Paperback)
"Truth or Dairy" was about Courtney's (mis)adventures in her senior year at Bugling Elk High, Colorado. Now she's been lured by way of scholarship money and great job to way off Wisconsin, the dairy capital of the world, at Corwall Falls College -- CFC. Grant is back in Colorado, and Courtney feels very alone -- especially when her promising work-study job is yanked, and she's surrounded by people and places pressuring her to veer of the straight and narrow vegan path. There's Mary Jo, her wholesome farm girl roomate; Ben, her awesome co-worker at Bagle Finagle; WW III, the top seller (and Corny the school mascot on the side) at her semi-telemarketing job; and a slew of other hilarious characters. Meanwhile she has her hands full trying to make her long-distance relationship with Grant work. All in all, this book was just as hilarious, but had sort of a sad-ish ending. Hopefully another Courtney V.D. Smith book will follow, by the awesome Catherine Clark!

Comic Case,
By Little Willow (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Paperback)
Last year, Courtney Von Dragen Smith dealt with her boyfriend breaking up with her, her brother dating her best friend, and her dog running away repeatedly. Now she's in college, and she's going to leave all of that melodrama behind her.Or . . . not. College presents her with a new set of problems: a roommate that loves cheese; tough classes and tests; and a new job with a mean boss. On top of all of this, she's homesick. Far, far away from home, keeping a long-distance relationship with her new boyfriend is proving to be hard, and she misses her family too. Wurst Case Scenario is written in diary format - and Courtney writes down absolutely everything right as she thinks it, so reading this book is like listening to her internal monologue. This funny college story is just as good if not better than its predecessor Truth or Dairy. From participating in protests to freaking out about mid-terms, from selling bagels to struggling to stay vegan, Courtney thinks her life is woeful - but readers will find it joyful.

Not the best but not the Wurst...,

I just finished reading "Wurst Case Scenario" but made the mistake of reading it before reading the prequel "Truth or Dairy". At first I was a bit confused by the characters and events/places she mentioned in passing, but, I did get to understand what/whom she was talking about by the end of the book. This book is written in diary form and it provides a complete "what not to do in a long distance relationship manual" "Wurst Case Scenario" is a hilarious book with a new crisis every page. Even though Courtney is quite a bit older than I am, I was still able to relate to her problems. I think it will appeal to all teenagers, both big and small. This book is funny and a page turner... it is by no means the best book around, but it's not the wurst either...

After reading Truth or Diary I was expecting Wurst Case Scenario to be a lot better than it actually was. Although the ending was disappointing, anyone looking for an ok read with find this enjoyable.

Just As Great As The First!,
By perfectourchemistry (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wurst Case Scenario (Paperback)
The book starts out at Cornwall Falls College; a place where self-centered Courtney doesn't even want to be. She continues to struggle to fit in throughout the book...in a town where they are not exactly welcoming to the vegetarian community. The main idea of the book is that Courtney has to figure out a way to make new friends, get some money, and keep her relationship with Grant (The Superior Boyfriend) even though they are far away from each other. Like the book before, it has lots of laugh-out-loud jokes, and the characters are always interesting. This is definitely worth reading; but it would be helpful to read "Truth Or Dairy" before this one.
