Sharpens really well, but I've got a few concerns,

This review is from: Wusthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener (Kitchen)
This device sharpens knives and scissors. It is suitable for both left- and right-handed users. It is well made and convenient to use. It has nice little non-slip pads.
The slot closer to the handle is for very coarse sharpening. It has two sharp carbide blades. It really takes the metal off. After a couple of minutes on an old dull knife there are little chips on the table top. (In machinist jargon, a "chips" are little pieces of curly metal that have been removed by a cutting tool.) This is really great for old dull knives that haven't been sharpened in years. But I wouldn't use it on a $100 Henckels or Wusthof knife. This could ruin it real fast. The outer slot has two small ceramic rods, about the diameter of matchsticks. These are set at a steeper angle then the carbide blades in the other slot. It was brand new and right out of the box, and worked very well. But after a while those little ceramic rods got thoroughly coated with metal. Note: I was doing this on very cheap knives at a friend's house. Presumably these cheap knives were made of quite soft metal. Perhaps the rods would not have gotten quite so coated had I been sharpening high-quality knives. My main concern, and why I only gave it 4 stars, is because I'm concerned that after a while it will sharpen more slowly because of all the metal coating the rods. And there appears to be no way to remove and clean the rods.

Definitely Good,
This review is from: Wusthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener (Kitchen)
Probably one of the best sharpeners I have used short of a whetstone and a steel. Granted, it does look to wear pretty quickly but at the price it costs, it definitely is worth the money and to buy another one especially when you consider the cost of a good knife. That is the only problem I had with it, and is the only reason it is not five stars on my books.
Also, yes, it will work better with a honing steel, as do all sharpeners, that is why honing steels are supposed to be used after sharpening. Overall, great product, great price, definitely worth the $20 I paid for mine.

The knife sharpener does the job as it is suppose too. I never realized how dull my knife set was till I sharpened it with this product. They are really fantastic knives now to use. Cuts are very clean and easy. A sharp knife is always better than a dull knife. I would definitely recommend this product to friends. Very easy to use.
