Sharpens really well, but I've got a few concerns,

This device sharpens knives and scissors. It is suitable for both left- and right-handed users. It is well made and convenient to use. It has nice little non-slip pads. The slot closer to the handle is for very coarse sharpening. It has two sharp carbide blades. It really takes the metal off. After a couple of minutes on an old dull knife there are little chips on the table top. (In machinist jargon, a "chips" are little pieces of curly metal that have been removed by a cutting tool.) This is really great for old dull knives that haven't been sharpened in years. But I wouldn't use it on a $100 Henckels or Wusthof knife. This could ruin it real fast. The outer slot has two small ceramic rods, about the diameter of matchsticks. These are set at a steeper angle then the carbide blades in the other slot. It was brand new and right out of the box, and worked very well. But after a while those little ceramic rods got thoroughly coated with metal. Note: I was doing this on very cheap knives at a friend's house. Presumably these cheap knives were made of quite soft metal. Perhaps the rods would not have gotten quite so coated had I been sharpening high-quality knives. My main concern, and why I only gave it 4 stars, is because I'm concerned that after a while it will sharpen more slowly because of all the metal coating the rods. And there appears to be no way to remove and clean the rods.

Definitely Good,
This review is from: Wusthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener (Kitchen)
Probably one of the best sharpeners I have used short of a whetstone and a steel. Granted, it does look to wear pretty quickly but at the price it costs, it definitely is worth the money and to buy another one especially when you consider the cost of a good knife. That is the only problem I had with it, and is the only reason it is not five stars on my books. Also, yes, it will work better with a honing steel, as do all sharpeners, that is why honing steels are supposed to be used after sharpening. Overall, great product, great price, definitely worth the $20 I paid for mine.

The knife sharpener does the job as it is suppose too. I never realized how dull my knife set was till I sharpened it with this product. They are really fantastic knives now to use. Cuts are very clean and easy. A sharp knife is always better than a dull knife. I would definitely recommend this product to friends. Very easy to use.

This sharpner is amazing. I have year old knives that have been used almost daily and with a few swipes through this sharpner they were actually sharper than when I first bought them. The sharpner is easy and quick to use. If you have any old, dull knives I highly recommend buying this sharpner before buying a new set of knives.

I have been looking for a knife sharpener for long. The ones available on the store shelves were a lot more expensive, till I can across this one on Amazon. I got one and have been using it. It is a great product. I understand that the sharpener will wear off after some time as it shaves off a it of metal each time it sharpens, but at the price point, I would be comfortable ordering a new one after 1 or 2 years. I would highly recommend.

This sharpener works great. You do have to be careful of the metal shavings though. What makes this product so great is that the exact angles are preset/fixed for you. No need to re-adjust anything to get a good edge (as long as you hold the blade at a 90 degree angle). It's very simple to use. Also seems well built.

I generally agree with most reviews here and I wanted to add a few photos and a video of the sharpener in action. I found that the better quality of knife that I started with, the better result I was able to achieve. This is one of the "safest" knife sharpeners I've used. It's wide, has a handle "outside" the strike zone, and has rubber pads to hold it in place while using it. The plastic is extremely sturdy and gives no sway while in use. It can be used left or right handed without issue and sharpens scissors both left and right handed. I rate this 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a little light on the instructions (whether each phase should be repeated until a certain state, or medium/fine/medium/fine) and because the ceramic fine sharpening side also blackened up quite quickly for me as well. I'm not certain it negatively affects sharpening, and the instructions do recommend washing after each use. I am going to try to scrub them and see what happens. For the price, I have been very pleased with this harpener. I have attached two photos and one video of the sharpener in use to give an idea of size and ergonomics.

Keeps a nice edge on my knives. Two stages to bring sharpness back to the dullest of knives. Carbide and ceramic. Works for scissors too.

Everything cuts like butter,
This review is from: Wusthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener (Kitchen)
This things works because it is so dead simple to use. It lives in the drawer and anytime something seems like it is taking more effort than it should to cut my chefs knife gets a little tune-up and we are back to cutting things thinly and without any effort. There are little rubber pads that keep it from sliding around. It's just very well engineered and thought out. |
