I have had Wustof knives for 25 years. That is I've never replaced them. If you take care of them they will last your lifetime. My chefs knife I use everyday. A few pulls across a steel once in a while and its as sharp as when it was new. This set was for my Father for his birthday. He was thrilled. He said the case was beautifuly made and the long tined fork really impressed him, he knew he could really get a grip on any roast with that fork. The knife was the best balanced and sharpest he can remember and he has had quite a few. Quite an impressive gift.

Even at the $130 price that Amazon asks for this supposedly $260 carving set, it simply is NOT a good value. The knife does not come shipped sharp enough to slice even soft meats as easily as you would hope for considering its $100+ price tag. Sharpening the knife seems to yield little results that make it sharper for a carving or two, but it just seems to lose its edge way too quickly.

I hate to seem to insult this knife, but I get better, easier meat slicing using the cheapo Miracle blade knives. No joke either. Sure the miracle blades may not be built as solid, but I'd much rather buy 3 or 4 complete sets of miracle blades then this two piece carving set.

The only plus I give this set is the solid and comfortable handles and the nice carry case. Cons are dull blade out of the box, hard to sharpen and hold it's edge. There is better carving knives out there at a fraction of the price, even at 60% off or whatever.

Save your money.. or at least buy a helluva lot better carving knife for your money.

Carving Set arrived early, Product is great. Purchased as gift. Wusthof "Classic" is a great knife! CReports rates excellent. I have owned them for 20 years and they are still going strong. Would never use or have another knife.

We recently invested in an entire set of Wusthof Classic knives, and we couldn't be happier. These are great knives that make cutting easier and more pleasurable, and with care they should last a lifetime. They aren't inexpensive, but they are perhaps the best value available, as it's possible to pay much more without getting much better a knife. The metal case is perhaps overkill here, but since our wood block is already full of other Wusthof Classic knives it actually comes in somewhat handy for us. Highly recommended.

I purchased this set for my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. The presentation is very nice- lovely storage case. The knife is well balanced,sharp as can be, the fork has long tines, both feel nice in the hand. This set impressed my family making a very nice gift.

My wife wanted a carving knife even though we wouldn't use it more than a few times a year. That made the case important for us. It won't be in the knife block, it will be tucked away waiting for an occasion that requires a large bit of meat.

The quality of the knife is what you'd expect from Wustoff's high end and the fork is doubly so. The fork alone would normally cost this much (subtracting for the case). If you want a carving set I can't imagine finding a better value than this.

Wüsthof makes several different knife lines but I prefer the classics. Personally, I've been using the Wüsthof Classics for over 20 years. These knives are made in Soligen Germany in the same factory that produces F. Dick knives.

Both the knife and fork have a full tang and are milled from a single piece of stainless steel. The handles are made from a really hard plastic resin that lasts forever. I'm so used to the shape of the handles that I find it difficult to use other brands. The carving knife is a perfect size for its task and the fork compliments it nicely.

If you want your Wüsthof knives to last, hand wash them and dry them quickly. The knife holds a sharp edge and the fork is much better than other brands. The case is nice to have but I don't use it.

If you're giving these as a gift, the recipient will be thanking you for years.
