Product Description

Size: 8"

Wusthof Classic knives are forged from one piece of specially tempered, high carbon, alloyed stainless steel to ensure outstanding strength and sharpness. Classic series knives were the first to feature Wusthof PEtec - Precision Edge Technology - for an easily maintained razor-sharp edge that retains its cutting performance twice as long as other knives. The attractive, ergonomic black handle is designed for comfort and control, and is made of a seamless, synthetic material for a hygienic grip. The handle is triple-riveted to the full-length tang for exceptional durability and the full bolster protects fingers from slipping.

It's a Wusthof Classic, so it's got all the weight, balance, comfort and precision sharpness of the great German line. This is a great choice for all amateur & aspiring chefs, and many professionals.

The purpose of this review is to urge any shopper investing in a Wusthof bread knife to go for the full 10" length -- it makes a positive difference in leverage as you slice, and easily clears the diameter of virtually any boule, ciabatta, and other artisan loaves. The same principle applies to roasts and other meats, if you use your serrated knives for carving.

The length doesn't diminish anyone's ability to slice tomatoes, panini or any other foods, either. If you're going to spend $100+ on a quality bread knife, make your money go further with the 10" model.

We bought the Wusthof 10" Bread Knife because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated Magazine as the best serrated knife available on the market. My wife and I make homemade Italian country bread and the crust is thick and can be a trick to slice well. This Wusthof 10" bread knife cuts it easily into any thickness we want -- and takes much of the manual labor out of the job. We love our new bread knife and we would recommend it to anyone who makes and loves artisan breads.

Thanks, Amazon, for the great price on this great knife!

Sincerely,
Mickey & Marie Mussett

This is a great knife. It not only cuts bread like it's butter, but is also great for slicing tomatoes. No matter how thin you want to slice the tomato, this knife can do it.

I got this knife as a gift and had my doubts that this could be so great. In my experience, any sereated knife cut bread pretty well. Boy, was I ever wrong. This knife slides through a loaf of bread, hot from the oven, like a hot knife through butter. Usually you have to let bread cool some before cutting or you get this crushed mass of food. With this knife I can cut it straight from the oven in 2 easy strokes and leave it looking like a slice of bread any professional could have done. My husband and I want to cut our own bread so we can use the knife ourselves! Who would have thought it could be so much fun? The heft is good and it's a decent size. I love it!

Bought this because of the rating in Cooks Illustrated and as usual, they were correct- a great knife that I wish I had bought years ago instead of trying to make otherr knives "make do".

This knife very, very, sharp. Sharper than your mother-in-law's tongue. A serious knife for the serious slicer. Avoid using this if you are a klutz.

This is a great knife. It's not inexpensive. In fact, the price appears to have increased by about $20 since I purchased mine one or two years ago, but it is a very well constructed sturdy serrated bread knife that should last a lifetime. I got the 10" and the balance was good. For me the 10" version is the appropriate length and provides the greatest range of utility. The blade is rigid and is on the thick side for a bread knife. This is good for durability and cutting into thick crusty loaves, but makes it perhaps just a bit too much knife for use cutting tomatoes or achieving extremely thin slices.

The knife is able to cut through my French style (crusty) bread and has a nice handle/grip. Very sharp and does not smash the bread while cutting it.
