Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Create culinary masterpieces in your home with this professional-quality Wusthof Culinar Asian Cook's Set, which includes 3-inch and 7-inch santoku knives. Elegant satin-finish handles sculpted from 18/10 stainless steel distinguish Culinar cutlery from Wusthof's other cutlery lines. Styled after the classic Japanese cook's knife, the 7-inch Santoku knife has broad blade and especially sharp cutting edge as well as indentations that minimize friction and sticking. It's a great companion for mincing, slicing, and dicing a variety of ingredients, and it's complemented by a the 3-inch Santoku for paring jobs.

Culinar knives embody all the virtues of other Wusthof knives that have earned the German manufacturer world renown. The principal parts of a Wusthof knife--blade, bolster, and tang--are forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel, and the blade is precisely tapered from bolster to tip and from back to hand-honed edge. Blades and beautifully formed bolsters are not as thick as some knives'. As a result, despite their heft, strength, and durability, Wusthof knives are pleasingly delicate and marvelously balanced in action.

Made in Solingen, Germany--The Cutlery Capital of the World--Wusthof knives are made from a special blend of German steel and each blade is precisely tempered, which allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet still be able to be maintained in your home kitchen without the need to be sent away for maintenance. Wusthof also employs a unique compound angle that tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge.

Generally, the construction technique and the materials used to manufacture make all Wusthof knives dishwasher safe, but handwashing is recommended. Wash your knives with warm water and a little detergent, rinse carefully and dry with a towel. Corrosive food particles will not affect your blade if washed off directly after use. Backed by a lifetime warranty.

Product Description

This set indludes a 3-inch and 7-inch santoku knives. Santokus have a special feature hollow-ground kullens that reduce the tendency of food to stick to the blade. The Japanese word Santoku has the meaning of “three virtues” this refers to the knifes ability to fine mincing, slice and dice. The Wusthof Culinar brush stainless handle design is combined with a contoured shape to add comfort and control. Located in The Cutlery Capital of the World, Solingen Germany, the Wusthof factory history goes back as far as 1814 when the company was listed with the Duchy of Berg. To this day, the company remains family owned. Throughout it’s history, Wusthof has focused almost solely on the manufacturing of forged knives for the professional chef and home cooking enthusiast. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet still be able to be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Our unique compound angle is not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility.

This review is from: Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Asian Cook's Set (Kitchen)
These are great knives. I use these two everytime I am preparing a meal. I've owned them for almost five years now. I bought a generic honing steel and a few passes each week and the blades have stayed sharp longer than anything I've ever owned. The gaps on the side of the blade really do seem to stop slices from stickign so much to the blade. Still happens some, especially with something like a tomato.

Some people have asked me if they are slippery with wet hands, being all metal and the answer is not at all. The brushed handles are textured and they never feel loose or slippery even when my hands are wet from washing stuff or handling meats.

The little W logo is attached by glue and that came off. Other than that, they've been flawless. I've even thrown them in the dishwaher once in a lazy while. I think the heat from the dishwasher is what unglued the logo.

The brushed steel look is just very classy and not ultra-modern-although it might fit well in that style too. I like it much better than the everyday-black handles. After five years, I have no desire to buy a replacement. These were worht the investment.
