Offset is Best Part of This Knife,

This review is from: Wusthof Culinar 8-Inch Offset Handle Deli Knife (Kitchen)
OK, I admit it. I was sucked in by how pretty this knife is. And, yes, this is a beautiful-looking knife, but after a decade of us, I've found Henckels products seem to work better, and last longer, than Wusthof. I have several of these Culinar line knives and the handles are uniformly uncomfortable, slippery and easily get too cold or too hot depending on washing recentness/room temp. Kind of annoying. That being said, this is still the bread knife that gets used the most use from my knife drawer, and that's because it's the only one with an offset handle. Absolutely ideal for slicing loaves and not bumping your knuckles, allowing you to get all the way through a rustic loaf, this is just the right length (8" is the minimum, to my mind, for a good bread knife) and has maintained its sharpness with minimal maintenance for more than a decade now ... And I bake bread a LOT. So, to sum up, this Culinar model is style over substance, but an offset handle bread knife is an invaluable kitchen tool. Still, you can get one just as good for a quarter of the price of this one, with a more comfortable handle to boot (for instance: Victorinox Cutlery 9-Inch Wavy Edge Bread Knife, albeit with a less hardy (stamped) blade.
