This 11-piece knife set from Wüsthof is an excellent match for a chef with high standards and a limited budget. Wusthof is one of the company's less expensive lines because the blades are stamped instead of hand-forged. All the same, they boast excellent craftsmanship and display the quality that Wüsthof is known for. Each blade is made from a single piece of high-carbon steel with a stain-resistant alloy. To ensure ideal shape and balance, each knife undergoes between 20 and 24 manufacturing steps, from stamping to polishing. The knives feature full tangs and triple-riveted synthetic handles for comfort and strength. Laser-testing ensures a uniform cutting edge and long-lasting sharpness. Included in this 11-piece set are five knives: an 8-inch cook's, an 8-inch carver, a 5-inch tomato, a 4-inch utility, and a 3-inch parer. A 9-inch steel is included for sharpening, and the 9-slot oak block has extra room for a pair of kitchen shears and another knife. The knives are dishwasher-safe, but Wüsthof recommends washing them by hand.
