Signed by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse (Bam!) and made by celebrated cutlery manufacturer Wüsthof, the five kitchen knives in this set have the same three-rivet, virtually indestructible poly handles as Wüsthof's premium Classic knives. Instead of being forged, however, the blades and full tangs are cut from steel sheets by precision lasers. That means no bolsters, but it also means the knives are perfectly shaped and fit their handles seamlessly. Moreover, the blades' high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of Wüsthof's premium knives, only thinner.
The knives are an 8-inch chef's knife with a broad, curved blade for rocking through chopping tasks; an 8-inch bread knife with a serrated edge for slicing crusty loaves; a 4-1/2-inch utility knife; a 3-inch paring knife with a straight, serrated edge and a drop point for slicing tomatoes and soft fruits; and a 3-inch paring knife with a tapered blade and sharp point for peeling and cleaning fruits and vegetables. Rounding out the set are a rugged pair of shears that come apart for sharpening, a 9-inch honing steel for keeping knife edges aligned, and a wood storage block with 9 slots--including one for the shears--bearing Emeril's and Wüsthof's logos. These are superb knives. They hold an edge amazingly well, they have a great weight, and they look wonderful. These knives have an edge that lasts through sharpening (with the included steel) and have an extremely rugged design (no blades snapping off of the handle here). When I got out of college I decided it was time to get a good knife set, the Chicago Cutlery wasn't doing it for me. I got the Emerilware knife set because of the Wusthof name and the great price. This is the best price I have seen for such high quality knives. I call it a starter not because you will replace these knives, but because you will add to the set.

I have cooked for years, and I always had OK knives. This set is an excellent step up.......they are razor sharp, and have the thickness that gives them good rigidity, as well as a great fit in the hand. I purchased these with the intention of eventually supplimenting the set with other Wusthof forged knives. Highly recommended !!!

The Emeril Pro line is the real deal Wusthof FORGED made in Germany line of knives.
The Emerilware line is a different line and a nice value line; but not the Emeril Pro quality. The Emeril Pro line set is a very good buy; however it does not include the 7-inch Santoku which is sold separately and is a must addition to the set. Unfortunately the line does not offer the 5-inch Santoku which would be helpful addition. I have found that Emeril Lagasse does not put his name on any products that are not quality; even the value line products are kicked up a notch.
