After purchasing this item, I realized there are different varieties of Wüsthof knives. The "Classic" and "Grand Prix" are made from forged steel, where as the "Gourmet" series is stamped from a sheet of steel. They look more cheaply made and while I'm sure they are good knives, it's worth your money to have one amazing knife, as opposed to 10 good knives. Thankfully the seller was great about accepting my return. Also of note: the shears were left out of the shipment, likely just a fluke, but make sure you count the pieces when your package arrives! Also, the knives arrived in a 17-slot block, not the 9-slot block mentioned in the description.

I was surprised at the quality of these knives for the price. I was not prepared to spend a rediculous amount of money on a knife set with a blade for every plausible occasion. This set has the perfect number of knives and each one feels natural in the hand.

Although this set comes with a sharpener, I recommend getting the Wüsthof 2904 Knife-Life knife and scissor sharpener. You will not need to sharpen these knives much, but that sharpener will make your life much easier and will renew every single pair of scissors in your house.

I also recommend, as others have, to never place these knives in the dishwasher. Also be sure to washt hem by hand and thoroughly dry them immediately after use. This will drastically increase their longevity.

If you purchase these, and I propose you do so, then get a travel roll bag for knives. This is because you will want to take them to friends' and family's homes to "show them off"!

We just got these knives for our wedding and were so excited to be the proud new owners of a set of Wusthof knives. What a disappointment we had when we pulled them from the box. These sheet-metal knives look like they'd snap at the very sight of a raw carrot. These knives bent easily, looked cheap and were immediately returned to their box. We plan to stick with Wusthof, but are going to return these and pay the extra for a good set of Classics or Culinars.
It's understandable that Wusthof (or any company) wants to provide products for entry-level buyers, and apparently this was the only way to reach this price point. But, after seeing these and reading a couple of reviews, it seems a waste of very good money for knives that don't look like they'll make it through the holidays, muchless years to come.
Save your money and invest in their forged steel!

My wife is the gourmet. She says these knives are superb. She also liked the particular variety of knives in this set. Too often, preselected sets have knives that simply aren't very useful for the home kitchen. This one makes a good starter set. We like to give knives as wedding gifts (for couples who like to cook) and this makes an excellent choice.

Have not used all of the knives yet, but the paring knives and the chef are both great. They are sharp and have a good feel to the hand. The only drawback I see so far is that the chef's knife could have a little more weight to it for hand control/feel when chopping food such as carrots, radishes, etc.

The blades are actually very sharp and steel is thick. The blade is much thicker and stronger than any other famous brands. I do not feel any part of them that are look cheap. They are worth the money.

WE're not professional chefs (or anywhere near it), but these knifes really do the job. They're very sharp, well weighted and great value!

Not only are the knives the "MOST EXCELLENT", the service in sending them to us was "EXTREMELY" prompt. We had ordered a similar set with 2 less pieces for $50 more, but it took over 2 months to come. We are so glad for the delay so that we could order yours with more pieces for $50 less.

Wusthof Knives are one of the best quality cutting tools that
you can invest your dollars for a long period of time. We useed
this at Culinary School and this is our issued knives set to be
used in our daily learning of skills. I would highly recommend
the set mostly with this price. 'I don't think anybody can beat
this price $29.00...So if I'm you i 'll not think twice, go
ahead and buy this, you will not regret at all and start to
enjoy your new set and cook wise for your love ones. Remember
you are doing this because you love to cook and having the right tools to start is the best reward you can give to yourself and
win the joyful fruits of your loveones while enjoying your
gourmei cooking...

Purchased this set thinking I'd get a variety of great Wusthof knives, what I got was a block with a couple of good knives, not 8...if I'd have wanted serrated knives, I wouldn't have spent this kind of money...pretty disappointing.
