These Gourmet series knives are are Laser Cut from a single piece of steel. This intricate Laser manufacturing process is superior to other "cookie cutter" methods as it is more precise and leaves the knives with less distortion. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. These knives are fine for what they are: a good deal on a set of very sharp steak knives with the Wusthof name. However, having gotten accustomed to the Wusthof "Classic" series in our kitchen, these "Gourmet" series knives felt oddly light and plasticky. Once you do some research you'll find that Wusthof makes several styles that span a wide range of prices: Gourmet, Grand Prix, Classic, Ikon, Culinar, etc.

The nicest part of this set was the box. I was unimpressed with the knives - light handles and flimsy blades. They have a very cheap feel to them, and left me wondering if these were really Wusthof. If so, they are certainly a price-point set. There is no way anyone would pay the list price for these.

For the $99 special price they were not a bad deal, but I returned them anyway because I was expecting Henckels Pro-level quality, and these are not.

I will say that this was my first return to Amazon in quite some time and I was reminded of how flawless their return procedures are.

These are nice steak knives and a value at the reduced price on the todays deal, other wise I would have been disapointed.
